Postby C89KF on Tue Apr 06, 2004 6:15 pm

I can't change the players nicknames in NBA 2004, i thought you can change it using DB Commander. Am I right? I am a first timer on the DB Commander. please teach me :?

Moved from NLSC Roster Patch Issues.

This year the nicknames are stored in an external .DBF file (nicknames.dbf). By matching up values in nicknames.dbf to the NICKNAMEID field in players.dbf, you can assign nicknames to players.

Just realised I didn't move this.

You'll have to change the correct .dbf file.

Nicknames does work...

Postby HonorGlow on Thu Apr 15, 2004 4:57 am

I tried editing the players.dbf file from the most recent saved folder and it does work...however, in order to have Marv Albert actually saw the nickname I'm thinking it can only one of the predetermined format that you see when you create a player(e.g. showstopper, shorty, ice, deadeye) I also changed the players.dbf file in the workingdb folder, but I don't think that has any effect.

WOW! now, opening that dbf file, I can see how people can be tempted to edit their ratings! (Earl Boykins with 99 dunking! with the dunk package of LeBron! Wow I'd like to see that! )

Have fun!

On a semi-related topic...

Postby HonorGlow on Tue Apr 20, 2004 2:13 am

Does anybody know how to associate the last names of generated rookies to be announced instead of their jersey number? There is a generated Mobley and a Malone in the league but like all the other rookies, their names are replaced with their jersey number by good ol' Marv and the Czar.

I don't care so much if the side effect would also mistakingly say the Czar sidecomment of e.g. "That's why he was named one of the 50 NBA greats" as that only really happens twice in the game.

Many thanks!

Go REAL Lakers...hopefully you'll get your offense together soon.

Yeah but when they dunk you don't want them to say, "Cuttino Mobley!" or, "KARL MALONE", do you?

...well...

Postby HonorGlow on Thu Apr 22, 2004 3:38 am

Well, in a sense, that'd be more realistic to show how senile Marv Albert really is! (j/k)
If anything, I've seen the cool patches and mods that the users of this community have done…unfortunately, nobody has delved too much into the audio commentary of the game. In time I hope to see how much control we can have in editing these files.

There were some audio patches a few years ago, but recent Lives haven't allowed as much manipulation of the audio files.

Needing Nickname help...

Postby HonorGlow on Sat May 01, 2004 12:21 am

My MVP lost his nickname! I finally found a cyberface that I was happy with so I imported his viv into the xplayer.viv file. And edited the "ISCREATED" and "PLYRPKG" fields in players.dbf to the correct values but now when I play the game, my MVP has his new cyberface but good ol' Marv has reverted back to calling him back to his Jersey Number. Is there any other fields in the players.dbf file that I need to change?

Any help would be…um…helpful!

Unfortunately you have to choose between a generated player with a nickname, or a cyberface.
