EA 2005, Its my Life, i love Ball, pls dont ruin it!!!

Wed Mar 03, 2004 10:10 pm

Any body that reads the 'other games' section will know my obsession with Farcry. If u dont, well i am. Over on the Farcry Forum its not just a place to post ur views and comments. The Ubisoft staff are fully intergrated into the actual forum, they are posting and making comments, there asking the ppl what they like/dont like, the game is in the final stages of development but they are still trying to find out what everybody wants from the game. They also issue Betas, new demo levels, advise on how to get the best performance. Basicaly the forum is helping the game development.
Andrew and all the other NLSC staff do an absolute fabulas job with this forum and i cant find a bad word to say about it, this thread in no way what so ever is reflective of this site and the way its run.
The point im trying to get across is EA dont give a shit about what we want or think, if they did they would take the time to find out what we want and would like to see in the next game. Do u know why some games do not have a pre release DEMO, because there crap, try and find a great game that has no DEMO, u wont find one.
I dont want another game like this one, i dont want NBA Live 2005 to be another EA Sports cash in. I want a game that i want to play because i love playing it, not becuase its the only basketball sim i can play.
Scrap the NBA Live series and take 2 years to produce an amazing NEW basketball game!

I like the idea for the sake of it.
I don't like the idea for i got a new computer, and wan't to play it while it's hot

On a side-note; If i'm not misstaken, EA Sports signed a contract with a graphic-software company about 6 months ago. I can't remember it's name. But I think that they will be included a lot in future games, and hopefully Live aswell.

Thu Mar 04, 2004 2:35 am

They already did this with Live 2003, at least with respect to the PC (i,e, no Live 2002 for PC). :D

In any case, I don't see how "scrapping" Live would help. Take two years to make a better game? I suppose that could be nice, but I need my annual fix!

Thu Mar 04, 2004 3:33 am

If they end the Live series they can start from scratch, get a new development team or what not. Just like they have with 'Knockout Kings', they scrapped it and started again with 'Fight Night' (which looks really good). Does anyone know the sales figures for this years game, is it down from previous years?

It was nvidia I think.

I think I could take an extra year for a new NBA Live, but I'd have to get PC version so I can patch it.

I'm confused about the poll though. It says 'Is it time to put NBA Live to bed!
and one answer is yes, I want live 2005 and no, i want something totally new. It should be the other way around.

Even if it's true that EA doesn't care what WE the people have to say (which I'm not saying they do or don't I don't know) they are going to continue to put out Live's simply because it's one of their big money makers. Next to Madden it's GOTTA be 2nd or at least 3rd. They know people will buy it every year because it really is the best thing out there. We may bitch and moan about things we want or should've had but lets face it nothing else is better. What other game do you have almost COMPLETE control over your player? ESPN had to bring in that 'isomotion' thing which is just it's counter to the freestyle. ESPN's faces are pretty sweet, but Live has 10X better gameplay, and the new sliders are awesome. Plus we have the jerseys and the shoes. I think it would be KINDA cool if they took a year off and then dropped the hottest basketball game to date. BUT that's only if they make a patch for the PC or in my case continue to make roster updates, and update player ratings and positions for the console versions through the off year. But on the other hand I need my fix too.

GO PACERS!!

Personally, I don't think they should scrap NBA Live in name or game. I don't want to sound like a shill, but I remain very impressed with NBA Live 2004. I would rather see the Live team improve the current product than scrapping it and starting over from scratch (with or without the NBA Live moniker).

ea sports knows that it can release any heaping pile of garbage and it will still sell a ridiculous amount simply because of the name that's attached to it

so why listent to anybody or give two shytes about the community?

if you think about the amazing job they have done with the other sports games like madden and fifa....it really makes you wonder what kind of people they got working on the basketball game and if they actually care at all about the finished product

I would seriously be embarassed to release a game where the last cover player looks like he just got his faced burned by bubbling hot acid...or the fact that with all the great animations and everything, the cpu big men still don't use any moves besides back down and never get the ball anyway....or....I could go on, but you get the point

No, but they should move into the US and pay a little more attention to the NBA, not the NHL.

If they were to remake the game, what would it be called?

Fri Mar 05, 2004 12:01 pm

LOL, yeah, I don't care where they make it as long as its good lol...

It should be called NBA Sim 2005. LOL Legend of NBA? NBA: Counter Strike? Super NBA bros? hehehe I think I'll quit lol.

In recent times EA teams have begun rescuing some of their stale sports franchises out of the shitox.. Knock Out Kings is being replaced by Fight Night (I'm actually excited about this game) and the Tripple Play Series has been replaced by the MVP series (2004 is looking seriously good.. esp with the franchise system).. I think that NHL and NBA Live have been 2 of the more neglected EA sports titles and with any luck their respective teams will pull their thumbs out and get their franchises back on track.. I don't think they should necessarily change the name from NBA Live (especially coz this is the first year since '95 that it rhymes)..

Kinda hard to vote on this. It's like the classic, saying: "Wiggle have you stopped beating your son?!"
:)

They'll keep putting it out (maybe for for pc every year, but definitly for consoles) because it is the 3rd best selling game (a guy at EA told me) behind Madden and Fifa. I think they should stick with this because their gameplay is very good right now except for a few things like players sliding, players having slow reaction time after jumping to catch passes or getting hit in-air, we all know what they are. All they really need to do is work on their franchise mode and get all the basic parts working well, be able to change the ammount of money offered to a player, no all-star players signing for the minimum, more detail in the draft (perhaps scouting).

They should also flat out fire all their graphics artists for sucking so much and hire Tony, Jowe, and Steve.

EA might spank us and roll out the TNT Contract again

I mean...just look at this years Live...Marv and Czar, McDonalds: I'm Lovin' It! Starting Line-Ups...Right Guard Speed Stick Player Of The Game....a Score Overlay so close to TNT's.....EA Sports is going to do something with TNT again...just like SEGA Sports did with ESPN...I do gotta admit...having TNT back would OWN!

Now...If only they can copy ESPN College Hoops and make a Dunk Contest with Button Combo's....Similar to Tony Hawk....I'd hear Kenny Smith say "THAT WAS SICK! HE'S SICK! HE'S GOT DA FLU! CUZ HE'S SICK!" which I love

Sun Mar 28, 2004 6:43 am

It's funny actually..... cause yall play live and also complain a lot about it..... u don't like it? don't play it

Sun Mar 28, 2004 9:57 am

live 2004 has the best gameplay in all basketball games...IMO... it would be really nice though if they improve the franchise mode...

Sun Mar 28, 2004 4:38 pm

Despite Live 2004's flaws, I still enjoy playing it because of the amount of patches that are created by the fans and because I'm a huge NBA fan. I don't think scrapping the whole series is necessary, they just need a serious overhaul. Namely, make the gameplay more realistic (big men need to get the ball more and have more moves, and the computer should not play such a formulatic style!!) and start the dynasty mode over from scratch (why the hell can't it be like any of the other EA sports games? Madden's is the deepest franchise mode ever, and I hear MVP's is great this year too. Transactions are just as important in the NBA!).

Sun Mar 28, 2004 5:29 pm

I gotta agree with Colin & Steven in saying that why would they scrap a game that sells so well for so many years. The gameplay this year was the best I've seen it. Thats because they're improving on things that need to be done. For years we've been saying that the gameplay needs improving. And it still does, like on the court, there are bugs and glitches, and many other things but the main things are been improved, slowly!!

In 2005, hopefully we'll see a better dynasty with all NBA features, becuase this year it was new, in it's first year so next year is expected to better in that area. Just as long as they hire guys from Madden and NHL who did the dynasties there. Also the store will be better as it's also a new feature, I don't know that for sure, but, they'll be reading these forums, seeing what we all like, and don't like. Hopefully they'll take that on board.
And also, Old School Fool's idea of TNT, would be so sick. Bringing in coporate sponsers brings a real life feel to the game which is what we all want. This is the first year they've had actual NBA arenas so, one step at a time. I love the NBA, I breathe it. I know what it is and what it involves. It's going to be some years away before it starts to get on target. These are devolopment stages.
And hence, the NLSC, nbalive.org and other patchers help provide a service that, in a way, speeds some things up. Like I've said before, that's my 4 cents, since I spent 2 more cents on this than I wanted. (Tax just keeps going up and up  )

I would like to see a dramatic improvement on the franchise mode.
Just like what their baseball counterpart did, MVP Baseball 2004.
Come on EA, the biggest difference I can tell between NBA Live 2000 and NBA Live 2004's franchise mode is......"they call it the Dynasty Mode now"!!
If MVP Baseball can improve their dynasty mode so dramatically in 1 year, I dont see any reason why the NBA Live still running a similar franchise mode as 4 years ago.
Don't get me wrong, I am not here to insult your beloved game, actually I am a die-hard NBA Live fan, I've been buying their product every year since 95 just as you guys did. All I want is an enhanced dynasty mode, and EA please do us a favour to bring back the in-game save function!!
Well, maybe tweak the gameplay a bit would be gorgeous.

I've been in this community since 97(or 98??), and this is my first post in here, so I would like to say hello to you guys. Plus, Andrew, you've really done a wonderful job!!! :) well done!!

i havent actually played madden or fifa or ne others from 2004 series but by the sounds of it nba live is dragging the chain. i play it all the time cause i love basketball but i wish that ea would improve the game so the madden fans are saying y isn tmadden like live not the other way. and please make midcourt madness or water the college game is called for us aussie, we mising out. and has ea ever though of adding internatioanal teams, such as the nbl teams, cause it would be way cool to wipe the nba clean with the bullets, (or try to at least)

Tue Apr 06, 2004 2:35 pm

I'll prolly end up killing this thread with my odd karma but i'll post anyways...

NBA Live is a great game, i'm sure we all agree with all our endless hours of playing and editing, but it has just so many nagging little flaws. Some of such that i find are like the charging bug (where the point counts if it goes in), throw in bugs, the ball control in game (how centers/pf never get the ball and mediocre pg's can always end up lighting up the scoreboards), over powered pro hop, the players are mini walls (you fake defenders out but can't get by them), defenders react too quickly coming out of a double team,.... you get my drift, and i have yet to get to the dynasty mode.

Personally I would rather them take a bit more time developing and bug testing the game to make it absolutely perfect then keep churning out these ALMOST done games. Graphics is not an issue with me, I just want a technically polished game...comparing it with UT2k4 may not be fair but they manage to get a perfect sequel out in a year, why can't EA Sports do it. Completely scraping doesn't seem necessary but I would not oppose to an overhaul of the game (major or minor).

as long as they released nbalive on the PC version i will buy it :D
