With the right rosters and sliders it is definately possible to beat them. Also it is effective to play man-to-man defense against them. Doubling nearly every single player of them is also effective.

For less fastbreaks you should lower the general game speed.

The only way to beat the Mavericks seems to be to beat them at their own game. You'll have a tough time defending them, so the best defense is a fast paced offense. I've split the season series with the Mavericks 1-1 in my Bulls Dynasty. The first time they won in a blow out, the second game I pulled out the double digit victory.

Some things to remember:

  • If you miss a shot, get back on defense immediately. If you need to, foul to stop the fast break.
  • Don't get tempted by the three point line. Try to build an early lead by going inside. If possible, try to get guys like Walker and Nowitzki in early foul trouble.
  • If you have good three point shooters, you might want to give them a chance to bomb away from three point range. As long as you're good at crashing the offensive boards, this shouldn't be a problem. Just be sure to abandon the long bomb if it's not working. Go back inside and keep the game close (or your lead intact).

The best strategy is to run the pick and roll. Stand behind the three point line with your best three point shooter. Call a pick and roll. Run your defender through the pick, make sure you are close to the three point line (but not standing on it or over it) and fire away. If you are quick enough, you should have an open look at the three.
  • Try not switch too much on defense. Try controlling your big men on defense. This will allow you to defend against their best post players, while allowing your CPU teammates to closely guard their perimeter players. It will also allow you to easily step into the lane to help out if their guards penetrate.
  • Use Off-Ball Control. It should help you get better position when posting up. Stand at the top of the key with your point guard. Switch to another player, then run around behind the point guard then on to the basket. Your defender will be caught behind the point guard, giving you an easy cut to the basket. Run to the hoop, calling for the pass when you are close enough for a dunk or layup.
  • Play hard. Don't let up on offense, don't play lazy defense. Match their intensity. Don't give up. Be aware of the late runs that they will make.

These strategies should be effective against the Mavericks and Lakers. I've found that the Mavericks are especially difficult, as they tend to fast break more often than the Lakers.

I find standing over the 3 point line (or at least the blue circle underneath covering the line) to be more accurate. Also, if you don't get the open 3 after the pick because the defender of your shooting guard or small forward switches on ur PG, throw it to that open man for an open 3.

On defense, I have found that Steve Nash and Michael Finely will always drive when they are at either corner, they will drive, and jumpstop and end up just outside the paint, position ur center (better if he has a block icon) at the spot and be ready for the block. They usually take a poor release jump shot where they release late, so its easy for u to block

Agreed. I meant the player's feet though. If they're over the line, it'll only count for two points.
