lost player name recognition

Sun Feb 01, 2004 9:37 pm

I'm editing some rosters files, and placed micheal jordan from an original player.dbf into another roster's free agency.
problem is when he is signed up and in the game the commentary only refers to him as no.23 :?
I haven't edited the player id (904) or the id7 (mijorda) so I'm kinda lost as to why he isn't recognized.
anyone knows what's happened and how to fix it?

How exactly did you edit the DBF file? How did you add Michael Jordan to the new roster?

i used ms access 2003 to copy jordan's line of info (record) and added it to another player.dbf, I then changed his team from 30 to 29 left origteam at 28 all his other info hasn't been changed.
any help?

try changing the id number to one that isnt used, i know it sounda bit strange, but i've done tons of stuff like this and the name stuff is fine...

Yes, giving him an unused created player ID (ie. much higher than the IDs of pre-existing players) while retaining the rest of his attributes, ratings and values is generally a good solution for problems such as these. (Y)

the one he has isn't used (playerid: 904)

wouldn't changing his existing playerisd make him lose his career stats? I have checked and his id has no conflicts with any other player but if you guys suggest changing it, I will give it a go.

It would, but then you could change the appropriate IDs in career.dbf to correct that problem.

When I play, Marv and the Czar always call Jordan by #23. Actually, they call every player in the legend pool by their numbers not their name. It has done this since I installed the game.

Is this not normal :?: Should they be saying the players name :?:

They should be calling them by their name.

same :(

the weird thing is they should call out the players name in the id7 speech file, shouldn't they?

Correct.

Have you modified the DBF in any other way that might cause errors?

not that I know of. How can I check/what can I look for?

Have you deleted any existing players that were included in the original rosters? That sometimes messes up the link to the sound files.

Also, is the problem restricted to Legends, or do regular players who should have audio get called by their jersey number too?

Sat Feb 07, 2004 7:29 pm

I probably did delete some of the players from my roster but not from the original rosters. I think some of the players might also have their number not their name called out (carl english recently, can't remember any others).

I've discovered a similar problem in my roster patches that isn't corrected by restoring the default rosters. I'll have to look investigate further; I'm pretty much stumped at the moment, as I haven't deleted any original players. :?

Sun Feb 08, 2004 6:33 pm

well then it's not just my rosters
I'm guessing its probably a bug, not the actual roster editing that is done.
If not, then the rosters aren't as flexible as they were in previous lives (in terms of the speech files and name recognition).
where to now?
btw any news on the official 2004 patch?

Mon Feb 09, 2004 3:49 pm

Well, I'm really stumped now. I've tested my roster patch and asked some other people who've tested it, and it seems not everyone is getting errors with the audio. So I really have no idea. :?

No release date has been set for the official patch, as far as I know. I'll keep my ear to the ground.

Name suddenly not called

Fri Feb 13, 2004 1:57 pm

I have somehow the same experience right now...

What I did was when I started my second season, I replaced the name of my rookie with an NBA legend. I just edited it through Excel. I just changed the name and the ID7 column. I gave him a different PLAYERPKG because for some reason his face doesn't show up. So it worked out fine until one day while I was messing around with the training files, suddenly they don't call his name anymore.

From my previous experience with another dynasty, this happened in the middle of the season. But then towards the end of the season they started calling the name of my rookie which was an NBA legend. I'm hoping that this will happen to my current dynasty.
