Help getting around the defender

What's the best way to get around your defender and take it to the hoop? I've tried using crossovers but most of the time they don't work. The defender is always in front of me. I don't have freestlye because I play on the PC and don't have a gamepad. Any help?

If you're crossing over to get by the defender, you should start from a distance so there's more room for you to move around and not get caught by the defender. Always use the turbo after a crossover or spin move to outrun your defender. I always find that the jab step is a very effective way to blow by your defender but of course, this can be done only from a triple threat position. Also, if you're in the open court, the power hop is the most effective way to get by defenders period. It seems like cheating so I tell myself not to use it too much but it's there and it works.

I'm sure with freestyle, there's better ways to get by a defender, but since I can only use keyboard, those are my suggestions.

The pick and roll is effective in getting to the hoop for an easy dunk or layup. I also recommend using Off Ball control. You'll find it's easier to let a CPU teammate handle the ball while you get good position or cut to the basket with another player. The give and go is also a suitable play, and can be easily executed if you're playing with a keyboard rather than on a console or with a dual analog PC gamepad.

yeah i dont use the pro-hop a lot.. i only use it in close games to split two defenders .. what works for me tho is right after i get a pass, i drive to the right real hard.. it works most of the time and it provides me a clear lane to the basket.. or you can try jabbing ur analog up and u do a spin move.. works real good too

That's only for jab steps and fakes. You can't do freestyle moves while you're dribbling.
