Is the game beatable on superstar, default sliders?

Postby - Ace - on Fri Jan 02, 2004 1:01 pm

I've been playing the game on superstar with default sliders using Andrew's rosters and lose about 8 out of 10 times. I like to focus on the defense aspect of the game but the game seems to give the offensive player an advantage over the defense. I was using the Twolves and I was playing against the Raptors. Every miss shot even if taken close to the basket results in a Raptor fastbreak which is impossible to stop. I wasn't even taking a bad shot bc I was in the paint but my player shoots a weak throw up and then goes into lag mode while the computer grabs the rebound and throws it foward for a 3 on 0 fastbreak. My players were still on this half side of the court but the computer had 3 players already on the other side of the court. Last man back doesn't work if all your players are just slow getting back. The CPU seems to never miss from the three point line even if you have a guy guarding him. And 90% of the CPU's basket in the key go in unless you block it. If I didn't control Garnett and try to block the layups and dunks the CPU would probably shoot 90% for the whole game. It's fustrating becaus in real life not all missed shots come from blocks. And another annoying thing is that not all blocks result in a missed FG statistic-wise. Another thing is if you front the post the CPU player can just throw through you and feed the post player and go for the dunk. Another annoying thing is if u play great defense for 23 secs I guarantee the CPU will pass it to some CPU teammate which will shoot an awkward shot at the buzzer and hit it 70% of the time. But if you do the same thing the CPU will be fast breaking and dunking in your face.

Maybe there's some hope because:
I've noticed tho is that on D if you take a player off a man with weak offense game and just have him roam around the CPU will settle for outside shots which will miss. If you let the computer teammates play passive defense the CPU is just going to shoot and make threes. Another thing I've noticed is that if some cpu guy is driving to the basket you can either have a shotblocker come over and block his layup or have a post guy just stand between the shooter and the basket and usually the shooter will miss.

I think its totally unrealistic if to have a chance to win I have to have 8 blocks from garnett in a 5 min quarter game. I don't mind if the CPU fastbreaks but it is ridiculous if the CPU can fast break but everytime i try to fastbreak the CPU defense is always back and my teammates don't run towards the basket.

I will keep playing until I beat the cheating superstar CPU.

It's the catch up 'ai'. Last 4 games I've played have gone into OT scoring in the 170-180's. It's quite ridiculous. I get up by 10 and it's inevidable that I'll miss at least 4 set shots consecutively and the other team will hit 3's with double teams on the shooting player. It really shits me because the game is otherwise highly enjoyable. It makes the game feel scripted and sometimes you wonder why you bother putting in effort offensively while the computer is 'catching up'.

I'm 1-3 playing on Superstar....Default sliders (50 fatigue), 8 min quarters...Usually the CPU just wrecks you in the 3rd Q, hitting EVERYTHING or fastbreaking like no tomorrow.

I just moved up to Superstar in my last game. default sliders. My post players hit rim on probably 80% of shots taken, but shot under 25% from the field. How is that possible? I have never seen so many shots clang off the rim.

I also continue to wonder why my players are so lazy on defense.

I did notice that my good offensive players got their share. Maybe defense is overrated.

The game's beatable on Superstar mode, for sure. I've played some games and I've been able to go on double-digit to single-digit runs to close them out winning by an average of about 10 points per game.

I look at the rotation of the ball and where it'll end up--most of the time in the guard's hands or a forward who drives in. As soon as I see a forward or guard driving in or a big man posting up, I use the neighbouring centre or power forward to help'im out.

I use direct-assigning/passing rather than using passing with the analog stick. Makes the game that much easier and your own style of play much more rewarding/effective.

My two cents.

True. Unfortunately I still accidentally pass to a slow-ass SF that comes up the court last... which is retarded, but whatever. :D

what i do to make a succesful fastbreak is whan you rebound the ball i always pass it to my PG using direct pass....then my sg and sf runs towards the basket....dont cross the halfcourt line cause they tend to stop running when you do so....as they run toward the basket i use the direct pass button to whoever has a bigger chance to make a successful layup---not neccessarily the one closest the basket :D

Try playing it with 5 of your friends ( i use the pS2 with a multitap and 5 contollers) , we just killed the lakers on superstar mode.

Kobe still burned us with acrobatic fadeaway layups though
he' sooo cheap. you can't defend him.

On single player, yeah, it's possible too. Just choose a team with blockers, lots of outside shooters and a superfast fast break finisher (SF or G) .
Just be sure you have at least a 10 point lead going into the 3rd quarter. Then start taking things slow. And play a half court game. Don't fastbreak if there are already defenders waiting for you. I guarantee that you'll get bumped and miss your layup. This is why you need the superfast finisher.

the computer is an easy beat but it's so boring playing against the AI....

Playing against other players online is much more enjoyable :P

I own the game for three weeks now and I play with everything at default except for fatigue which I set to 50 to make the game more realistic.
I play at the Superstar level with Minnesota and just started a dynasty. So far, I have played 27 games and I won 21 of them. So yes, it's definately possible to beat the computer at superstar!

My last game was against Dallas and I beat those guys at home: 125 - 97 (8 minute quarters).
I have played one online game so far, which I won: 41 - 78. I don't know if I'm really good at this game, maybe I had a weak opponent, but I would like to play more online games, so if there are guys here who are interested and want to play using Direct IP, add the following address to your MSN list:

Cheers!
