Post your tips and strategies for online Play

Postby Fadeyi on Thu Dec 11, 2003 5:25 am

I will probably start with mine.
Rules for playing well online
1.PLAY DEFENSE
2.Know your teams weakness and strengths.
3. Run plays, they are your bread and butter. (especially screen and roll)
4. PLAY DEFENSE
5. Manage your fatigue...
6. Learn to use your bench.. (Helps rest your starters.)
7. Study your opponent.. (Stop what they like to do most)
8. PLAY DEFENSE.
9. Let your ai teamates help on d...(you dont always have to guard the man yourself.. I usually pick a player with good D and use him to pressure and harras them into a turn over. Somtimes i switch with ai.. cause they do somethings better than you.
10. PLAY DEFENSE.
11. Pressure the ball after you make your basket. ( i usually score about twelve points a game by putting pressure on the man passing the ball.)
12. Dont rely on threes a lone.. ( very few players can win the game with threes pointers alone, if you are not feeling your outside shots, you will get beat.
13. PLAY DEFENSE
14. Dont make bad passes.. turnovers = fastbreak
15. PLAY SMART DEFENSE... ( Fouling should be last resort.. It can be just as effective to stay in front of your man and raise your hand.. he will miss.. only fould if you have not choice..
16. Play the game from press box... ( This give you a very good view of the court. I stupidly played live 2003 from sideline... You play much better from pressbox view.. Or you can experiement.. Camera angle counts.
17 PLAY DEFENSE.
18 Practice with everyone on your team in practise mode. get to know their limitations.
19 Have more than one favorite
20 OFFENSE WILL COME TO YOU WITH PRACTICE..

So you want us to play defenSe? :D

Good list, but I would hope everyone does all of the above anyway. My tip? I don't have any, as I haven't gone online with 2004 yet. :)

So people play with fatigue turned on? When I played 2003 online nobody would ever want to play with fatigue turned on (except myself, of course).

HEHE,
Thx, I made a change.. must have been tire when posting..
Actually online play has forced fatigue... It is very significant in online play..
You cant use your starter for more than a quarter without them getting tired. so you have to use your bench to rest..
I usually rest my starters for about a minute and a half

to elaborate on #6, when I play vs the CPU, they seem to play their star players in the 4th qtr until there's like 1 min left and more than half the stamina bar is gone. I prefer to use my reservers in the middle of the 4th, then with about 3 and a half minutes left, i put back in my best players.

the other thing, is to box out. don't allow offensive rebounds. if you can box out and play defense well, grab the board, then you can start a good fast break.

agree.

most of the opponents DIDN'T tried to substitute their players.
And tried to hit a lot of threes when they were getting rush.

For the camera issue, i think it's all up to you that you feel comfortable with.
i use Baseline High, setting auto zoom off, zoom out a little bit.
and can play D well , as well as the Offence.

Yeah, good points there, especially about letting the CPU do some work on D...

As for camera views, I play Baseline High with autozoom off and zoomed all the way out. I have not felt as comfy with any view since the "Classic" view was removed (I think in 2003 or 2001), but I got to learn to value the pros of Basline High :)

Can't wait to have fun in our online league, draft is nearly finished (it is for me, had 2nd pick in 10th round...), here's my team roster:

I absolutly hate the losers they let cpu play ALL there defence. Its boring and u will loose every game u play. PLAY UR OWN DEFENCE. Heres how u get beat, whilst ur letting cpu play the game 4 u, i just switch 2 the player that my oppenent is matched up with and score every time.

What I hate are people that come into a thread with absolutely the wrong attitude... but let's not go there.

Letting the CPU defend is a pretty effective way to play D - help defenders often have the better chance of getting the steal or block, for example, and you can pretty much lock down the pick&roll by letting the CPU defend the ballhandler and yourself taking control of the second defender.

Ur a JOKE, the whole point of playin online is 2 play against another person. Whats the point if ur gonna let cpu do all the real work. DONT TRY AND TALK ABOUT ATTITUDE. uR THE 1 CRITICIZING, NOT ME, I JUST MADE MY COMMENT, WHICH IS WHAT THESE BOARDS ARE FOR!!!!

There's nothing wrong with playing defence by using one person, or someone that is the weak-side help. It's just a different way to play defence, what you're saying is the same as getting angry with someone who only drives into the paint on offence, he only does it one way boo hoo. You're probably just saying that anyway because you played someone who did defence like that and they killed you.

Your grammer in your first post is terrible, it seemed (and still seems) like you said you were loosing everytime. I've read it 5 times now. I can sort of see why it might mean that, but not really.

1. FASTBREAKS!!! i score about 40 points a game off fast breaks..when someone shoots have your guy guarding him run back to half court and then throw the ball to him :)

Thank you for the qualified assessment of my mental state and qualities as an NBA Live player.
And again - I also thank you for pointing out that everyone who does not play Live the way you think it should be played is an idiot. I will make sure to adjust my gameplay accordingly so I can please you.

And finally, in words you understand: combined CPU/Human D 0wnz Human D.

Ummm... getting back on topic!

My strategy is to show different parts of my game at different times. For example, when I really want to stop the opponent with my D, I might call a zone to confuse him/her. On the offensive end, for example, I might pull up for a J instead of driving to the hoop if I've been driving a lot. Mix it up! I guess the general idea is to do unexpected things from time to time to keep the oponent off balance.

:applaud: Give it up, i said nothing about ur mental attitude, the way u play or the way anybody else plays, i said UR A JOKE(I made a general comment which u clearly did not read) and u decided 2 try and be smart. I dont know how 2 play D so i shall stand about WHILST the cpu does all the work 4 u making it easy 4 me. Ur talking absolute HS.

LET THE CPU PLAY ALL THE DEFENCE AND OFFENCE THEN WE CAN JUST SIT THERE AND WATCH

why does everybody have 2 be a smart arse. In my original post i was talking about ppl that let cpu play ALL there defence not help side D.
LOL. Combined CPU/Human D 0wnz Human D, its always combined, unless u know a way 2 control all 5 players a once!!
