announcer issue

Mon Dec 01, 2003 3:00 pm

I have changed some playerID around and now they are calling MJ a 'ben wallace'

wassup?

You shouldn't change the player IDs, as it messes up the commentary track.

Why were you changing the IDs? Perhaps there's an alternative method of accomplishing whatever it is you want to do. :)

well i am making a 90-91 roster, so most of the guys are not in the original game. i re-numbered everyone from 1 so it's easier to avoid duplicates.

so it doesn't matter what his name is.

as long as a player keeps his ID, he will always be called the same name?

That's correct. Speech files correspond to the player IDs, so you shouldn't change them.

Actually, there is one instance where you can change them without errors. In v1.01 of my current roster patch (which will be released soon), I've given some created players their old IDs, so that they match up with the career stats. For non-created players though, never change the IDs.

Thanks heaps Andrew (Y)

One last question, what about nickname field? Do they have any significance for non-created players?

Tue Dec 02, 2003 3:03 pm

This year, the nickname field is linked to nicknames.dbf. A value of -1 means no nickname will be displayed. There are actually a lot of nicknames stored in nicknames.dbf, including "The Worm", "O.P." and other nicknames of retired players. If you look up the values in nickname.dbf, you can assign them to created players quite easily.

Alright. Are they just for display or will annouce actually call some of them?

Anyway, thanks again

It's only for display in the "View Player" screen. There is a seperate field for speech files.

I gave myself the nickname "Big Dog" and my other created player "The Beast" and I haven't heard either Marv or Fratello or the PA announcer say it? It might just be for show--or they have a little snipit where they'll say it once every blue moon.

My recent discovery.
I re-numbered everybody so their playerIDs now range from 2000 to 3000 or something.
The announcer still calls names for existing players, so i think it's only related to speech file ID.

I have a feeling you might have to change both. I know if you edit the coaches and change their speech ID, the announcer will still call them by the original name (eg if you change Bill Cartwright to Scott Skiles, even if you change the speech ID he will be introduced as Bill Cartwright).
