a few of my complaints..

of this great game...

1) I throw the ball in the post...the player naturally gets doubled. My question is that, if I give the ball to Chris Bosh, why does the man guarding Vince Carter, who happens to be close to Bosh but standing on the 3pt line, double Bosh??? Carter is a good shooter and also a good slasher so being wide open i can either shoot the 3 or take it to the rack and slam it home..either way an easy 2 or 3 points. Meanwhile, I have Alvin Williams and Michael Curry on the floor. Curry can't shoot for beans and has close to no offensive game...so why not send the defender cross-court and leave curry open? that's what they do in the nba and leaving vince open is just dumb.

2) i have vince on the break, i go up for the dunk, and i'm forced to adjust my shot. However, meanwhile it is EXTREMELY obvious that he got hacked/hit on the shoulders by the defender but there's no foul call? On the other hand, I take a three, the computer jumps, barely touches me and i got 3 free throws??

3) this is just minor, but happens once in awhile so i should mention it...there's 10 seconds on the shot clock. i have no idea what Michael Olowakandi is doing on the 3 pt line, esp. with the ball in his hands? So he waits for the 10 seconds to become 3 seconds and since i know he won't take a 3, I back off him...but with 3 seconds left he jacks up a trey??? Olowokandi??? With 5 seconds left, he would probably pass to KG or Spree and let them take a shot...not stand there for 10 seconds like an idiot then take a 3 that I knew he would miss.

do you guys get these problems? i play on all-star.

oh and i forgot are there technicals?

Yea I've noticed those things, too.

With VC goin' for the dunk--you'd think a guy like Earl Boykins wouldn't force him to adjust his shots.

Each one of your complaints/observations are quite accurate, however.

For the second one you could jack up the in-air foul slider. The first one might be altered by double team effectiveness. But a better way to do it is to slide your controller over and change the double teams for the cpu, as well as change yours so they only double the guys they should.

The third one is just lousy AI.

i agree with everything but the part about them bringing the man from cross court u should never do that...they just wouldn't double team bosh in real life....

the game doubles too much in the post....it should only be when a guy is seriously lighting you up in the post or if its shaq or duncan...i mean who doubles calvin booth in the post common

and yes i hate when big men get the ball outside with the clock at like 10 and instead of giving it to a shooter they take it...what is that??

i was finally happy that i was getting somewhat realitic gameplay and stats with 12min quarters then i was playing the lakers in superstar and me and the comps 3point were at 30% and shaq gets the ball with 10 on the clock he holds it till its at 3 and i didnt back off i challenged him and he shoots the 3 and makes it...that just made me angry cause there was like 2mins left in the game and he put them up by 3 with that

I think if the cpu was running a proper set the big man might not be out by the three point line.

I've never thought of it until now but is it possible to switch teams and change the CPU's double team to never in the player matchups section?

In Exhibition/Play Now, you don't even have to move the controller over to edit the cpu's stuff. But I think it's been said that in Dynasty you have to move the controller over.

rats, i hate it when those big guys make threes and when you miss an easy dunk or layup because there's a defender or your player is not a superstar. what could be adjusted to liimit these?

and also when clock is winding down and the CPU tries to come back they double team you so fast you get a hard time getting a decent jumpshot

I'm quote satisfied with the number of fouls I'm getting right now and if i turn up the in-air foul slider, that would call dumb fouls . i dont see how the double team effectiveness would help the first one though...

yeah i was going to add that i forgot. but I think EA added the double team in the post ALWAYS because if the CPU doesn't...then it's going to get burned in the post with all the dunks via the power dribble.

in real life, if garnett had the ball in the post, they WOULD leave gary trent open. if they give the ball to trent, the defense rotates a man over to cover him, or that side of the team collapses onto him. simple team rotation defense.

edit: one more thing...i use andrew's sliders and almost all the CPU's blocks are off my dunks? for some reason, a lot of my players, when they slash and get a chance to dunk in traffic and do, like to pull the ball back pretty far, so the CPU can smack it out of his hands...i thought most blocks in the nba come off help defense...lay-ups, short jump shots...not dunks

With the double teaming, well the point is to get two guys on the fellow and fast so that he cannot set up his best shot, so the guy who is the closest will and should come to help, if help is needed. No matter who is he guarding! Maybe leaving Vince open is a bad idea and maybe they really wouldn't double Chris Bosh in the paint, but if they would and Vince's defender would be the closest, well it would be his job...

Vince's defender would probably have orders to stay with the man no matter what happens, and who does anything... I think Box and One would be a good defense against Toronto as they basically had no other offense then Vince. Now with two other guys who can shoot it from downtown, well I don't know, but before...

We'll have to see how the games start to flow with Toronto, Bulls played great last night and Crawford was 30/8/8... I think I'll have to take him back to my fantasy team.

Yeah, this is the crucial part. On the other side, you will have a wide open Vince Carter.

So it's on the decision of the coach, letting Bosh hitting his 1-on-1 lowpost-jumper with another guy running towards him or letting Vince Carter an wide open shot. What would be your decision?

I think the first Option is the better one, but you'll never know, maybe VC misses his open shots on this day and Bosh scores in low post in the face of his defender... Guess which scenario is more realistic...

My Experiences with the AI of the CPU with NBA LIVE 2003. Haven't tested enough for 2004 yet.

- In the beginning of the game, there were NO double teams.
- IF the Low Post Player is starting to score a couple of Points from this position, the CPU starts to double team with the closest defender.
- So, if you dish the ball out and hits the Threes a couple of time, the CPU sends ANOTHER player from the OTHER side to double team!
- Also, if a Player who has ALREADY made alot of Points in this game is next to the lowpost player, the CPU sends a player from the other side to double team.

actually with the double teams its prety accurate. i actually watch a lot of bball but not until recently i have noticed that no matter WHO is down in the post when they get to the hoop they'll get double teamed. i think as long as ur post guy is a fair distance from the hoop...(and it doesnt have to be that far) then the double wont come and u can do ur stuff.....it takes a little getting use to where in live 2000 u can go as close as u want to the hoop and no one doubles you......

my complaint is the INBOUNDS PASS........its so sudden......u dont have time to set ur guys up to defense cuz immediately after the cut scene the ball is already inbounds! if they could release a patch for that it would be great

well sometimes to disrupt the other team and change the game flow teams will run defensive sets where you double near the sidelines, double the ball handler as soon as he passes half court or double in the post just to force turnovers but not the whole game

oh yea that part isn't bad i'm just talkinga bout the parts where if u get fouled and u take it in from the half court......its just so sudden....and usually its the SF that guards the inbounds pass but sometimes after the cutscenes the pass is made and ur SF is still on the other side of the court!

Yeah, you're absolutely right. this is also an option.
It depends on the Coach or Defensive Coach and his concept.

In real life, rotating defenses is very hard to play because everyone is involved in rotation, so often one player is sleeping and the concept fails (one bad defender on the court could be deadly). Another point against a rotating defense is that you have missmatches after a rotation (in our case vc could be matchup against a slow or lame defender after rotation).

As i said, all strategies are possible, it depends on the Coach and his concept, which he builds up with his team. There is NO perfect defense for all situations in the game! Every defense can be outplayed.
