After a like 20 minutes i figured this out and then made a video tutorial.

I suggest using these because im gettin very realistic play. people shoot the ball that should, drive, take close shots, medium shots, and not too many long range shots from my experience of seeing.

use this thread, to see what teams have what offensive play sets. showstoppers post, thanks showstopper and kdre.

Im sure this works cause i see the side triangle play workin for the lakers now.
i see the new york knicks, using players more efficently that wasnt used before.
Iverson, now has more control over the ball, etc.

they have secon_off to , so i guess they switch to these too.
it will still show dynamic in the team strategy section, but its now the default dynamic setting what ever you chose.

I tried to follow ur instructions but i really don't know which one to choose from. THere are 10 inside triangle. Which one is for the lakers?

I tried this myself a week ago, but then I stopped because a question came to my mind.

In plays.dbf, are ALREADY specified special plays for every team in PRIM_OFF and SEC_OFF, but if you set offense to Dynamic, the team performs only P&R, Isolation, Post-Up ecc.

Now why if we change the values as you describe the teams should now perform specific plays if let to dynamic, and follow what we want them to make?

I mean, every team has already 6 plays in teams.dbf, but they don't execute them. There should be some trigger which tells teams to perform plays written in teams.dbf.

There's a field in PLAYS.DBF called "STRINGID" which assigns an unique number to each generic play (i.e., Motion -all variants- is 6, 1-4high -all variants- is 7, and so on.

Also, in TEAMS.DBF there is a field called "PBOOKID", just located before the PRIM_OFF field. This field is empty (not zero) for all the teams.

Maybe filling the PBOOKID field with the number assigned to each play in STRINGID, the teams would play the correct plays. I will not have time to test it by myself this weekend, but maybe someone can do it and post the results achieved.

This is a good point and a nice try to make.

But I wonder how and when the single teams perform the plays written in teams.dbf, the ones marked PRI_OFF, SEC_OFF, ALT_1 to ALT_4.

For example take New York Knicks in teams.dbf and mark the plays ID under the field mentioned above. You get the following results:

PRI_OFF: (530) Secondary Break 4
SEC_OFF: (485) Inside Triangle 6
ALT1: (297) Utah 2
ALT2: (75) Old Dead Box (marked as DELETED in plays DBF, not in use should mean)
ALT3: (0) BC Endline O/B (??)
ALT4: (334) Utah 7

Now this looks interesting, and I expect to see New York perform some of these in Dynamic mode, together with yhe usual simple plays. But has anyone ever seen one of these performed in game? We'd need PLAY NOTIFICATION displayed for every action to understand it.

Should be interesting to analyse more in this issue.

The offense is automaticaly set to dynamic for all teams, and from watchin the cpu vs cpu, i see the cpu running first there offensive strategy i chose in the teams.dbf ( i know my imagination is playin with me that much i hope not )

Iknow the side triangle very well from watchin the bulls for so many years, then watching phill jackson carry that over to the lakers.
So when i set teams.dbf and see the lakers run this offense, im pretty sure it works.
after watchin the cpu for awhile, it deff looks like they switch up the offense by there selves.

to do that, i would deff need play notification for this game.
they dont have that, heh, the old nba live's use to....

i picked a side trianlge for the prim_off and a inside triangle for the secon_off
i just picked one randomly of the choice.
then id watch the cpu play, and see wich one they run better with players handling the ball that i like ( realisticly as possible of course too , dont think it matters too much since its still the same offence set ::shrugs:: )

If you still want what i did i can still send it to ya.
i was thinking of just making a link for the download of mine.
just filled em in to the best they should be based on the sliders thread.

Id like to get a full understanding of the settings in all these fields.
i wonder what would happen if we emailed EA Sports for the game fields, send em a pic of it to freshen there memory.

I see your point Techno and I'm sure it works, because I changed the plays one time and I well remember one 4 corner play by the knicks, a play everyone can recognize in game.

Now I'll try to see if by default the teams perform the plays (unchanged) written in PRI_OFF and SEC_OFF (for example again NY with Secondary Break 4 and Inside Triangle 6) and maybe the ones in ALT_1 to ALT_4, other than the 4 simple ones.

Damn, we need play notification badly here. It would be much much easier to understand the logic beneath play choosing.

At first sight it seems that in CPU vs CPU games with no files edited, they always choose from the four basic plays, or am I wrong?

i tryed setting my teams.dbf back to a default back up copy.

so far i only watched the first and second quarter ( part ) , but i didnt see them change to anything.
they stayed at the prim off. ::shrugs::

Only thing im sure of right now is that they use the prim off that is chosen, and they rotate the plays in that playset formation.

example...
i played chicago bulls vs the lakers, and they both use side triangle and inside triangle play sets, prim off for lakers and i think bulls is side triangle.

watching them both, they both stayed in the side triangle formation, and they had different plays for the side triangle formation.
so they use the plays for the formation that you see labled in the plays.dbf as 'plays' that are number like 1-7 , or what ever.

they just dontseem to be switching to secon off , alt, etc.
wich would make sence for 'dynamic' but wouldnt make sence for havin different playsets in the teams.dbf.
youd think they would make the cpu automated to choose different play formations also.
just like the defense is set to autoswitch.

STRINGID and PBOOKID combo didn't work. The CPU offence is still set to Dynamic and I don't see changes when they execute plays.

well, you wont see the "dynamic" name change in the strategies.
it will stay that way, well, i think believe so.

best way to tell is by knowing the set formations.
sucks, cause i only know the side triangle formation.

how do i set sideline triangle for the lakers, i mean not sideline triangle 1 or 2... i mean how do i set the default as random sideline triangle just as what happens if u set it on team strategy?

if it's ok, can you release your teams.dbf so we can test it out?! thanks!

Im not totally sure, but im pretty certain, they do random different plays for the sideline triangle, or whatever offense they use.
Mainly im sure, because i see them run different routes in the game for the sideline triangle..

I think 991 is for random sideline tri. I also think IDs from 980-996 are for random plays.

I understand this modification adjusts team strategies, but I was wondering if there was a way to select your own default plays for the controller's D-pad without having to go to the menu every game.

For example, I'd like motion as an option instead of isolation automatically selected.
