If they won't sign for minimum, isn't that basically problem solved???
And not all the super-stars sign with their originating team... Some want to move to another team, and if they cannot get a contract they like, real players will most likely sign with original team or a for the league minimum to a team they want to join (like GP and Malone to Lakers this summer)... Like Arenas did with the wizards, Odom with Miami... There are always a couple of hot stars that will change teams during off-season.
Most of the minimum wage players should be seen in the FA pool again next year, or signed to a bigger contract with their team... And this worked even in Live 2003...
The only problem with 2003 was that this seemed to apply to all the super-stars in the league! There should be some sort of a loyalty rating to players, so that trying to persuade Kidd away from NJ would be a difficult task or Tim Duncan away from the Spurs... Or some rating for their priorities! Like do they prioritise money, title, long term stability or do they just want to play... So they would be more inclined to accept some offers then others. And this would bring more character to the NBA players of Live games.
I have said it before that there should be a combination of these two! Some go for the big contract (especially young players) and some go for the title (veterans) or some people who were tossed around the league in their earlier years would really appreciate a long 5 year contract! Loyalty would play part when a player looks at all of their offers... And if Loyalty rating was high, he would take a contract for less money from his own team then move after the cash to another team. Or he would try to win the championship with his current team etc. But if Low, you shouldn't expect that player to hang around, if you fell out of competition for the title or you couldn't give him enough cash or would not give him a long term deal...
Just some of my thoughts on free agents... It needs to be improved...
