Can't get the game to even install...

I'm pretty annoyed at this point in time; after I put in my serial number, the installer quits. I'd rather not reformat, and it's not the game as it works on one of my roommate's computers. If anyone has any idea, or has had similar problems, let me know. My hardware and OS are fine...

Windows XP Home (w/all windows updates dloaded)
80 gig hd
DVD drive
Cd-rw drive
386 mb ddr ram
P4 1.3
Geforce4 Ti 4200

I don't have much for other programs installed...MS Office, Civ III, winamp, logitech stuff for my keyboard and mouse, roxio, photoshop, and then a bunch of mp3s. I do frequent maintence on my computer, so I can't figure out why this wouldn't be working. I've restarted several times in the hopes that it would work, but it hasn't. Anybody have any advice?
