Alley oops ???

Postby baddog5454 on Mon Nov 17, 2003 1:09 pm

What do I do to get guys to cut to the basket more often,to recieve alley oops?
Seems most of the time they just stand around, and not very often
make the cut to the hoop.

Thanks in advance.

Try calling "Post Up" and "Basket Cut" on offense. Alternatively, you could use Off-Ball Control to get into position and call for an alley-oop.

A few things have worked for me: basket cut as andrew mentioned...but suprising pick and roll. Get an athletic big, like Kmart let's say, have the other big, let's say Zo, set a pick for Kidd. If you press the alley-oop button, usually Kmart will come off the baseline for a dunk (and he usually makes it ;)). But of course, if you alley-oop to say Mark Blount, he'll probably miss it.

Suprising that Big Ben almost always makes his dunks in real life but misses a bunch of alley-oops in the game.

I'm still discovering all the things you can do with Off-Ball Control, so I can't answer that one for now.

I'm assuming you've got Yao and Francis, so I suggest using Post Up for Yao and running a few isolation plays for Francis.

pick and roll dude! it'll clear the path for franchise and maybe give yao a dunk/easy jumper.

Ally-oop is more easy this time imo...through i'm playing only allstar level

with a tall center, ally-oop can be made 4 out of 5 time

What puzzles me is that sometimes when I want to alley-oop to a player that's closest and more open to the net, my player alley-oop passes it to somebody else who had a less chance of making it.

I know what you mean, this happens to me too. And another thing I don't like about the alley-oops is the players don't look at the ball, it just goes into their hand.

Hehe, I thought I was the only one. :) It drives me nuts when Kmart or 'Zo is being fronted by the defender too far out, I try to lob it to him, then Kittles comes zooming in from the baseline to blow the dunk (usually goes out of bounds!). I guess if we get good enough with the off-ball control it's easier to do. My fingers aren't that fast though. :D I can't find my manual, so I don't even know how to work off-ball stuff anyway. Meh, it will turn-up, though the irony of this is that my desk is cleaner than it has been in months.

Out of the 134 games i played, I've only made one successful alleyoop, Francis to Yao! Most of the time my player would blow the dunk or another player would jump out from nowhere and throw the ball out of bounds! So now i only use the move when i'm leading by a large margin.

What do you guys have your dunk frequencys set at, cos mine i slike 30 or 25 and when i throw alley oops they quite often do a lay-up version, i get them in about 50% of the time, so i rekon its all about timing.
