Shutdown - Audio Card Issue?

I have an AC97 Audio Card - latest drivers; However, just when I am about to hit the court (after selecting teams) I hear three popping noises and I hit the desktop......

EA can't seem to figure it out and Fifa 2004 runs fine.

Can anyone recommend a PCI audio card that is direct x 9.0 compatible?

Any SoundBlaster Audigy card. WHich one you get really depends on what kinds of paripherals and software you want with it.
