During the mid season break a News Reporter from Memphis did an article on the Cavs:
Cavs Turning Heads
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been playing very well through the 1st half of the season
Chris Roberts
Febuary 10, 2004
The Cavaliers came into this season underrated as many people thought Rookie phenom Lebron James may not live up to all the hype. Lebron did more more than live up to the hype, he past that barrier and is now playing in this year’s All-Star Game with some of the top players in the NBA. He is alongside his teammate, Carlos Boozer who also made the all-star game. Both players played very well during the 1st half of the season and they proved many people wrong as they took the Cavaliers to a 12-5 record.
Lebron stats we’re eye-popping for the 1st half of the season as he averaged 25.8 PPG, 6.8 APG and 6.4 RPG. “He has really showed me a lot and as a rookie he is becoming one of the best players in the NBA slowly. Next thing you know, Lebron will be in the hall of fame with many of the greats from the NBA,” Cavaliers coach Paul Silas said. Carlos Boozer is in the run for Most Improved Player of the Year as he is averaging a double-double for the Cavaliers with 14.5 PPG, 13.4 RPG and he added 2.4 BPG. “He really worked hard during the summer to get his game in top shape. It has shown throughout the season and he is now an all-star,” Cavaliers forward Tayshaun Prince said.
Tayshaun Prince has been very impressive ever since his performance during the NBA Playoffs in the year of 2003 when he showed up against the Orlando Magic. This season with the Cleveland Cavaliers he has came off the bench as a 6th man and has shown more signs of improvement by each game. He is a 6th man canidate for this season averaging 15.2 PPG and 3.3 RPG in 27.5 MPG of play off the bench. He was injured for 3 out of the 17 games played and he started 4 games out of the 14 games he has played. “I love the Cleveland organization and I work hard everyday in practice so I can do all I can to help this team win and reach the playoffs,” Prince said.
The Cavaliers rookie PG Mark Moore, has been mentioned in many trade rumors during the season and it hasn’t been such a great thing. “I love Cleveland, but if they want to move me I will be alright with it. The fact is, I want to stay a Cavalier and this team is doing good things with me running the show at the PG spot. The trade deadline is coming up and I can expect even more rumors coming along after the all-star break,” Moore said. Moore averaged 16.4 PPG and 7.9 APG for the Cavaliers through the 1st half of the season and many of the Cleveland fans think he should stay. “I love Mark’s game and I hope they don’t trade him. There is nothing wrong with the way he is playing and I’m pretty sure he is doing what the coaches are asking him to do,” Cleveland native Derek Harris said on a local news station in Cleveland. A few things that do stand-out about Mark Moore is that he only shoots 61% from the free throw line and as a guard, that’s a bad thing to have. “We have heard a lot of rumors, and I can’t say that we will trade him or we will keep him. We won’t have more news until after the all-star break. That’s when most things will clear up,” Cavaliers owner Gund said.
You can watch your Cavalier players Lebron James and Carlos Boozer play in the all-star game on Sunday as they will play against the Western Conference All-Stars.

Dunks of the Year
For your reading pleasure we have put together what we think are the top 8 dunks of the Cavaliers Regular Season.
Top 8 Dunks of the Regular Season
Cavs Playoff Run:
Round 1
First up for the Cavs were the Boston Celtics, the Celtics came in as the favourites but only becasue of experience, and the Cavs showed them that you need more than just that.
Game 1: Boston @ Cleveland
The Cavs gave their home court the best show of the season in this game, they went out to a 23-15 lead at the end of the first and never looked back. Carlos Boozer took control of this game and was relentless, never givign up a rebound and dishing and making the right shots on offense, the Celtics could not come up with and answer for the Booze Bus. The Lead was out to 19 at the end of the 3rd and the Cavs didnt even slack off in the fourth, taking the lead out to 20 to close the game out 87-67.
Top Performances:
Boozer (POG) 14p 5/6 25 rebs (10 offensive) 3blks 6asts
LeBron James 23p 7/13 5rebs 3ast
Ricky Davis 18p 8/13 2rebs 3ast
Ricky Davis seemed to be the only thing working for the Celtics in game 1.
Game 2: Cleveland @ Boston
This game was the Celtics turn to heat it up for the fans, the FG% for the Celtics was out of this world in the first quarter shooting 65%, yet the Cavs showed they can now play defense keeping the scoreslocked at 19 all. The high FG% from Boston continued all throughout the game, and the Cavs jsut couldnt match it. LeBron tried to get his team back into the game but was unsucessful in a losin effort. Boston took the game far too easily 92-81.
Top Performances:
Paul Pierce (POG) 25p 9/16 5rebs 2stl 2ast
Banks 13p 3rebs 10ast
LeBron James 34p 4rebs 2stl 7ast
Boozer 10p 14rebs 2blk
LeBron was flying all round the Celtics, but his team mates werent there to help.
Game 3: Boston @ Cleveland
The Cavs came out knowing they were going to win this game, but there was one thing standing in their way, Paul Pierce and the Celtics.
The Cavs showed once agin that they are not a one man show, with the LeBron's rookie counterpart, Moore taking onthe scoring load and notching up 12 in the first quarter to lead the Cavs to a 28-21 lead.
The Cavs continued the strong play with Boozer pulling down the boards and Moore and Bron linking up on the offensive end, but once the third quarter came around the Cavs faltered and gave the Celtics all the room they needed to come back within 5 68-63 at the end of the third.
The Celtics put all the pressure they cold find on the Cavs in the fourth and it nearly payed off till Moore hit a trey with 3 seconds left to prevent over time. The Cavs took the series with a 90-87 game 3 win.
Paul Pierce couldnt do enough to keep his Celtics in the Championship Race.
Top Performances:
Moore (POG) 33p 2rebs 1stl 7ast
Boozer 19rebs 2stl 5ast
Big Z 23p
Walter McCarty 12p 13rebs
Round One MVP:
Carlos Boozer
Boozer ruled the paint against the Celtics averaging 11.3ppg 2bpg and most importantly 19.3 rebounds per outing.
Round 2
Up Next for the Cavs was a much harder opponent, the Indiana Pacers, with Reggie Miller pushing for the Ring it was always going to be hard.
Game 1 Cleveland@Indiana
The Cavs came out with nothing to lsoe in this game, facing a far more deep team they played with their hearts and came out at the end of the first on top 24-18. The Cavs didnt lose their lead for the rest of the gmae, the pacers did manage some comebacks but the Cavs kept fighting to take the game and steal home court advantage, 93-90 behind a great game from LeBron.
Top Performances:
LeBron (POG) 32p 14/22 7rebs 4ast
Boozer 8p 10rebs 4blk
Artest 23p 2ast 1stl
O'Neal 21p 8rebs
Artests D will be the Key in this series, unfortunately he couldnt do anything about LeBron in the first game.
Game 2: Indiana @ Cleveland
THe Pacers came out tonight in a do ro die situation, they had put themselves in a very hard spot, with a loss in the first game so they were never going to go down easy. They led from the start and kept that lead, thanks to stellar shooting form Reggie Miller, until the end of the 3rd where the Cavs managed to creap ahead by 2, 72-70. THe Cavs kept extending the lead, but a sucessful alley-oop form LeBron to Kedrick Brown, followed by and unsucessful one to Prince, saw the Cavs lose a grip on the game and let the Pacers come riht bakc to force overtime 97-97.
The over time was Reggie time, with Reggie unable to be stopped, determined to get his ring, the Cavs wouldnt answer and learnt their lesson 116-112.
Top Performances:
Reggie Miller (POG) 36p 7/15 3pt 7rebs 3stls 2ast
JO 17p 14rebs 4blk 3ast
Boozer 12p 15rebs 2stl 8ast
Bron 25p 14rebs 2blk 3stl 11ast
Over-time was "Reggie-Time"
Game 3: Cleveland @ Indiana
With the Pacers retaking homecourt advantage with a crucial win in Cleveland, the Cavs were in for a tremdously hard game, and that was what they got.
The Cavs managed to keep pace with the Pacers during the first quarter on offense but the great D that they had showed throughout the playoffs was long gone. The Cavs managed to keep it close, but still trailed 70-63 at the end of the 3rd. Tayshuand Prince's 10 point 4th quarter helped to push the Cavs up within 2 then a trip to the free throw line for LeBron put the game into Overtime 93-93.
The second play up the court Moore took and injury to the Ankle, and with Wagner cold all night, Silas put Bron back at the point. Indiana punished for the mistake, Miller make crucial shots to give the Indiana the gmae and series 104-103.
Top Performances:
Reggie Miller (POG) 22p 2rebs 3stls 3ast
Tinsley 18p 3rebs 3stl 4ast
Prince 31p 6rebs 2ast
Bron 27p 4rebs 3ast
The Cavs failed at their first attempt at a championship with LeBron at the Helm.
Round 2 Co MVP's:
Reggie Miller and Jermaine O'Neal.
Reggie was quite in game 1 with only 9 p but he scored 36 in the second and 22 in the 3rd, and what more his shots were the important ones. JO was crucial in keeping Boozer quite and forcing the Cavs to play on the Perimeter.
Cavs Playoff MVP:
LeBron James.
LeBron did have some good help from his suporting cast, and Boozer was the star of the first round, but LeBron was always there when the team needed them and lead them showing maturity far past his years, his consistency is shown by his averages of 26.2ppg 6.8rpg and 5.3apg, leading his team in points and assists.
In our next issue we will give a report of the Cavs offseason, and other key league moves.
