I'm completely bewildered by this.

Throw the ball inside and hit your guy with it when he's spotting up...pull-up or hit him with a pass in transition...call for a pick...use off-ball control and run your guy through other people.

The most effective way to get by your man in isolation is to catch the ball in triple threat...lean out with the freestyle stick then take-off with the left analog stick. When you get by your guy you can pull up.

I have a guy in my franchise who has hit 11 threes in a game and he has 55 speed...I don't find it difficult at all to get a shot off.

I shouldn't have to do that everytime i want to shoot hte ball over some clueless defender. Lol pump fakes dont even work for christ sake, its like the defender is on a spring they dont even have to bend thier legs they just bounce right of the floor to block your shot after they bite on the pump fake.

It is easy to score with your PG (power dribble) or C and PF...backing down, hooks and so on.

But Allan Houston is not that fast and always gets blocked. His FG% is very low, luckily is was sent to the line often and made 11/11 there. But it is so annoying when you fake and your defender is in the air. When he is on the peak of his jump, I take the shot when he is going down...so I am going up, he is going down and it would be COMPLETELY impossible for him to reject my shot...how could he? He is in the air, so there's no way...but the animation is fu**ed up or something, even he is in the air when I jump to take my shot, he lands in a sudden and blocks him. This is so ridiculous and unrealistic! It's like a mirror, he jumps when I jump even he is in the air...

Hey,

i have problem with shot blocks also too.... :? In this case i have a .....question of unterstanding  :

There are sliders for cpu and bench . I thing bench means the real guy who use the controller-pad  right ? In reverse the sliders for cpu means the the computer team ?. So if i lowerd in the cpu section the "slider block" and the the computer team i hope so didn´t block to many shots. Correct ?

Last game yesterday... James makes 8 blocks against my lakers most this against Kobe.....

Man you guys are just whining your asses off... If you shoot in the face of a mike miller or james posey with devean george and kobe, well no wonder you get blocked... Mike Miller is 6'8" or 6'9" and Posey is 6'8"... Now those are enormous players... Kobe is 6'7" and George was like 6'6" or something... Posey is a great athlete and Miller is ok too... So don't be surprised if the likes of James Posey blocks your shot. He's a defensive specialist for god sakes...

You boys are all adjusting your player ratings etc. Yes I too had this problem, but I worked around it... You can't just pull up for a shot while a defender is in your face... You can't do that in the real game either.

How do Kobe/T-Mac/AI do it then... They are intimidating players... (this is not reflected in the game) They are very quick and can blow past defenders with ease... So the defenders in real life do not get as close as they do in Live and thus in real life Kobe, T-Mac and AI have more room to shoot the ball then in Live 2004... And you can get a good shot off of a screen almost every time... There are players that come to make the screen which you can utilize. Reggie Miller has made a career out of this and he is touted as one of the best shooters ever in the NBA...

Kobe, TMac and AI have their shots blocked rarely too because they can really choose the way they shoot... They see what the defender is doing and they know that by doing a move or shot like so will be extremely difficult to block, but this is again quite difficult telling when you play Live...

My point here is that you have to play the game to know the moves and get it done like they do in real life. And you don't have all the moves at your disposal... Not yet atleast... So you will have to take a slightly different approach... It is still a game although it is getting closer and closer to it's real life counter part.

DBF editing is the cowards way out of everything... Be a man and deal with it.

No no and no! It is not me, it is not my fault that I get blocked. If it was, I would get blocked with all players, all positions but the blocks only happen to shooting guards...

I dunno I zoomed the game camera in and it seemed like so many problems dissapeared, i wasn't getting stupid T.O??, i was able to shoot over players as long as i had a foot or 2 to the left or right, i also already turned my block slider as soon as i got the game i put it to 10 and now i have it at 5 for layups and 0 for shots......all i do is pick and roll or triple threat and move to one side then pull up, and just pass it off if you think you'll get blocked too that help... I still got blocked on some shots but its cause Dallas was playing zone and i had Boykins in the corner where Dirk was guarding and I tried to shoot over Dirk straight up without dribbling or anything. :(

The only problem i have is when players run and contest a shot the game should implement momentum of a player so they run past you not just jump and float forward but then land back where they jumped from. Like I mentioned before the players also have too quick recover and jump again or the jump shot is too slow, but when you fake out a player and try to shoot he can get back up and block you again

Try adjusting the sliders in gameplay settings. I play with the computer shot block ability at 10 and their layup/dunk block ability at 20. These are the stats from a roster update for the PC. With these stats very rarly will a SG or SF block a lay up or dunk.

When you get a guy in the air, you can make a good shot after that... You just have to time it right. And shoot it almost immediatly after he goes for the fake. That way he has no time to jump again.

It's true that especially shooting guards get blocked on several occations. But I have Garnett getting blocked. And Kurt Thomas under the hoop too. It's not just my shooting guard Houston. The shooting guards have the toughest job in the game, when you're job description is shooting the ball, well that's always going to be tough. And the opposing players know it and so you have to work extra hard to do your job... In real life though the defenders usually have to give some room to the perimeter players so that they won't go right past them so the shooting is "easier", but in the game it is quite hard to get past your man even when he is right in your face...

It's a game... The players are too close to eliminate atleast some of three point bonanza effect... If the defenders would give you more room it would certainly result in more three pointers shot and it would make the game less realistic then it is now.

Be a man... Deal with it... It is very hard to get a set shot off in the NBA.

You can't just shoot a shot with a defender defending you closely and expect to make it. In real life, if you're standing at the perimeter with a defender defending you, you don't just jump up and shoot it. You'll get blocked for the majority of the time. You can get off your shot by driving and then shooting or doing a catch and shoot. You have to time the release so you won't get blocked. Use picks and basket cuts to get open. If you try to play nba jam style in which you just shoot from the perimeter with a guy defending I guarantee the opponents guards will be fast breaking and throwing alley oop dunks.

my problem is that I block too often, the ball goes out of bound and counts as a turnover.....I have 3 turnovers a game becoz of this.

Thu Feb 12, 2004 2:26 am

got the same problem.. i'm open behind 3pts line, defender theoretically way too far, but as a sudden he runs at me-jumps-and-blocks me .......
ok, let's say he got the right timing.

BUUUT, how come that when I try to block the CPU shooter, MY defender just jumps juuuust a bit BESIDES the shooter instead of in front of him ?!??? i mean, i wait staight in front of him, i know he's gonna shoot, i jump quite at the same time, buuut instead of raising the left hand for example (which would lead to a block), my dumb defender raises his right hand... thaaaat close but not close enough..
of course resulting in a block failure, and, moreover, it doesn't seem to affect the CPU shooting % ..................................

i'm slightly getting pi%*çed off (sry, er, "dejected"..) seeing CPU shooting 40% on my face while i can't even shoot it without being blocked even when i'm quite open...

Hey there!! I have both CPU & USER Block sliders set to 0-Zero & there are still many blocks...what really annoys me is that Jamal Maglore will get 6-8 blocks a game in the paint blocking dunks!! LMFAO!!
Ever try shooting over Rashard Lewis?? FORGET ABOUT IT!!
How many blocks a game do you get from blocking peremiter shots??
I might get 1-2 most of my blocks come from inside when a PG/SG tries to bunny-hop in for a jumper...Anyhow, setting the sliders to 0-Zero will solve nothing...but this works very well, stand at a dribble, protect ball, push up on the freestyle stick, watch your shooters head, (he watches the ball) & release at the right time to nail the jay...by doing this you should fake out your defender almost everytime...
