MASSIVE BUG FOUND - Player lock unusable.

Postby Oosh on Mon Nov 03, 2003 1:51 pm

I use the player lock when I play my live games to make the game the much more realistic. But this year it is unusable because the players on your team controlled by the CPU just pass the ball around the key and never take any shots turning the ball over when the shotclock goes off.

The only way to get them to shoot is to force them by pressing Square...

But whats the point in player lock then? They dont make any moves anyway so theres no point in forcing them to shoot it because they are never open and just throw up trash.

Iam so dissapointed it is not funny. This was my last big chance for EA but ive had enough now and im just gonna wait for NBA 2k4 to come out and trade this piece of crap in for it.

If somebody has a way to fix this PLEASE reply!

Yeah its true. The only way your cpu teammates score is on a clear fastbreak. So my suggestion is to use full control.

I only play on player lock so this one is a big problem for me too. 2001 had a similar issue with players not taking the shot and when they did it wasn't one of your main offensive weapons. 2003 played a lot better with player lock so I'm hoping the pc version at least has this fixed.

Don't you have to press the shoot button to make your CPU controlled players shoot the rock?

I am pretty sure that you do.

exactly ...this gives the user control of how the game is played and what shots are taken. i dont think many ppl would liek to have the cpu just shooting without u havin any control of it. I like player lock as it is as long as the teammates actually pass the ball around and dont turn it over with any regularity

i don't think you should have to tell your players to shoot. Player Lock means that you're locked to that player. ie. you get the experience that you're jsut one guy on the court. If you have to babysit your players and tell them when to shoot, that totally defeats the purpose of Player Lock.
I don't personally use player lock, but i can see how this would be EXTREMELY annoying.

Oosh... you dont have to wait for ESPN 2k4 to be released. it's out now

What's the fun???

Postby Vi1n5ce on Tue Nov 04, 2003 10:12 pm

I wonder what's the fun if the computer control your team most of the time??... The main purpose for player lock is use the plays and follow the plays with your own guy to get open... And then shoot the ball...

Sometimes there are open shots for one of your teammate (computer controlled) and it is up to you to recognize it and press the shoot button... I think EA intended to do that and not having the computer play just like a simulation game with you controlling one player...

My problem with player lock in 2003, was that when my teammate's shot the ball, they always step back, pump fake 3 times, and get blocked.

Oosh metion 2k4, that's the crap one with players looks robotic and skates on the floor although the player's faces really resembles their counter part in real-life, their body looks cyborg and looks like they have a short neck. The 2k4 Players moves robotic like all the sega's arcade basketball and the camera option is really awfull(2k3's camera option is better). In my opinion Live 04 is the best basketball game today.

If you want a basketball game this year, after trading in Live 04, you're gonna trade in ESPN to get Live again. Heh.

If you're on player lock and set the shot control to CPU, do your team-mates still not shoot the ball?

Shot control has never influenced the fact does the AI shoot or not in player lock.

Shot control only influences the shots you shoot. As in "manual" the shot is made is calculated by what you do with the shooting button. Do you release it at the best spot or not etc. And CPU shot control bases all shots on the player ratings and not that much on the timing of you and your fingers.

This is common knowledge of the game... And it has nothing to do with the fact that does AI shoot while you are playing in player lock mode. Absolutely nothing!

Dude, if you think that an unusable player lock is a huge bug, check out this one that Andrew has discovered.

You can trade someone like Tim Duncan (huge salary) to a team that is over the salary cap for a player on a minimum contract, ie- Brendan Haywood.

Is the player lock different from 2001? If it's the same then you have to run plays and use direct pass when your guys are cutting to the hoop; or when you drive and the defense collapses on you, kick it out to the open guy and he'll knock down the shot. If player lock truly is different from previous live editions, well then that totally bites hard.

That's just bad... How in the hell could this kind of a screw up end up in a released product???

We'll see what they get for us PC guys. Is there anything fixed or not...

Disagree with that, I always thought the point of player-lock in every game was so that you could get the feel of being an individual factor and learn to do more intangible things away from the ball, and it teaches you to have faith in the abilities of your teammates. For that to happen then every simulated player needs to play equally well within his ratings. Its not a huge bug for the majority of us but for players like Oosh who want to use it frequently the game becomes pretty much worthless. And thats a shame.

I play with player lock on always. Its like playing an actual game with real nba super stars. Pass to Jordan, Malone, help Kobe score or ally-op to Shaq. Nba 2004 is a big disappointment with out this feature.

I only play on player lock so this is killing me. I mean my cpu teammates only pass around the perimeter and never into the low blocks and they don't even try to shoot even with the clock at like 0:01. I'm hoping to find a way to adjust the sliders or something to help with this.

yea so )*$!&!*@&$ stupid. i play the cavs, and i tried using player lock. fast break and i passed to miles and he was under the basket and he just waited there and passed the rock to davis who was standing at the 3-pt line

WTF. its so annoying. i play using player lock 90% of the time. only time i dont use it is when im playing a stacked team like lakers or mavs.

and i read some guy saying (in this forum) that the players just stand around... YES THEY )@!*$)!@$)!@ DO. i was handling the ball... (LBJ) and miles and davis was just wating at the 3pt line, boozer standing just left of the key. and Z on the other side. im like... MOVE??!??!?! W T F.

and i thought live2004 will be better than 2003. the only thing i see that is better is the prohop and some of the dunks.
other than that.. this game is starting to annoy me
