Do you like the commentator of NBA Live?

Postby K-Mart.6 on Wed Oct 01, 2003 4:26 am

this year, we have Mike fratello(ex coach des cavs) et marv albert, but every country have his own commentator?

germany,spain,maybe italy have someone else
France : it's a very very bad man :eric besnard from france's chanel call CANAL +; so in france, we want one thing : we supply EA Sports to sign George Eddy and Bruno poulain, Two commentator of NBA and NFL on Canal +, to give their voice for the next game Live 2005, because the french voice is Horrible!

in PS2, you can put it on english, french, spain or german mode, and you have the game on the console's language!

Marv Albert = basketball in my book. The only person i would've like better is Sir Charles and kenny smith. ESPN got Tolbert--i hate that guy, I wish they got Walton--annoying ,YES, but atleast he's entertaining.

I like Tom Tolbert and Bill Walton, their arguing is classic.

I think Tom Tolbert tries too hard to be like Barkley but doesn't have the career to back it up. When Charles says something outlandish, I'm like that's funny. But when Tom does it, it's like WhoTF is this guy?

Same with Walton, he has the career to back his comments up so I find him entertaining plus he has his own style of calling a game.

Marv Albert is a great commentator. I miss Bob Costas on NBA on NBC, though. :(

Hey I'd prefer Tom Tolbert over some blow-ass, like Peter Vecsey.

Sides, Tolbert's comments are good and appear to be non-biased to me. I don't know, maybe it's just me.

A commentary team of Dick Bavetta (spelling?) and Hubie Brown would've been good, but Brown's coaching the Grizzlies.

Sean Elliott and the 'other' guy (sorry, don't know his name) could be considered.

But I think Marv and the Czar are going to be commentators for NBA Live for awhile. The one voice they should definately change is the PA announcer. How sweet would it be if they got each of the PA announcer's for every team in the L?

They got each stadium for every team in Live now (except for Indiana and Boston I believe). And that brings a great atmosphere to a game, especially in the playoffs. Having each team's PA announcer could be the next step.

I like the choice of Marv Albert and Mike Fratello. They have worked as a team for many years and are well known and respected for their game commentary.

It will be a very long time before that happens :)...EA would have to record 30 arena announcers saying every player name 3 different times. The NBA Live 2003 file for the arena speech with Al Murdoch saying each players name is 30 MB. So...

30 announcers x 30 MB each = 900 MB = 1.5 CD's of data

The above numbers also tell us why it will be a long time before we get more than one set of play-by-play commentators...since the play-by-play files are almost 200 MB...

I have the dubious honour of sharing my birthday with Tom Tolbert. :? As for Marv and Mike...excellent choice for commentary. (Y) The snippets I've heard on the play of the day videos hint at grealty improved commentary.

K-Mart.6 is right for french commentators, we suffer from having this silly Eric Besnard, that can say "Malik Sealy" when he's talking of Malik Rose (IRL, not in the game). He has no intonation in his voice.

George Eddy was in Live 97. That's bad he's no longer the commentator of the series, he's such fun !

Here's a glance at what he ever said :

"you have to make Miles to see Darius" (yes that's true he said that)

"po po po po po po po po po po po" (Kobe dunks)

"boink" (Fat Thomas Hamilton sitting on the bench)

Man, if he were in Live 2003, I would have bought the game only for him, without caring of the bad gameplay :D

It seems to be far improved over the two morons we have had to put up with before.

I would have loved to have Bill Walton, my favourite :D

he's a very special man,

he says "oh la la la la la la" what is means "this is amazing"

and this channel got NBA TV for this season!! it's very great for us!

for some reason, i cant stand walton as a commentator. the stuff that he says gets kinda annoying....

"thow it down big man, throw it down"
"what a shot, what a move, what a play"

I don't like George Eddy, he's too bad, but that could be funny whit him.

B.Poulain is the worst commentator of france. I prefer Eric Benard.

Bill Walton and Kevin Harlan r my fav commentators (Y) :applaud:
they appeared together on one of the NBA Jam games and they r just so funny to me. Bill Walton is always praising the lakers and Harlin is always so close to blowing a lung but marv and the Czar r cool to and should provide a new flavor to the live commentary. I guess this means good bye to Don Queir(cannt spell it) and Bob Elliot.

hey latrell, you're a fan of spree? but why show us carmelo's face?

eric besnard is a very bad commentator because he does not, know that marcus fizer is from iowa state, or lonny baxter was a big man at maryland!....this man has not a basketball culture!

and george eddy is a real fan of basketball, and football , he was at Florida university(gators), he's speak a very good french,

'cause i love Melo too :)

Im ok with u, Benard hasn't got any basketball culture but i like him he's a good commentator.

I don't like eddy's jokes, their is too bad. But it's right, he know a lot about basket, more than Benard :)

You know, I think anyone is better than that guy Don Poier. I would rather have Marv and the Czar because (1) they are real commentators and GOOD at it and (2) they don't bore us to death like Don Poier. I think they should talk about the game more, (other than "he passes it to Payton") but at the same time talk about things relevant to the teams playing during the game (discuss a key injury and its effect on the team, or discuss a player's performance in that game).
And KMart6, your english is good enough, but some people don't know French, so they might not know what "des" and "et" mean, but there are many online translators, so I don't have a problem with bad English.

Rod Black on TSN (in Toronto) is THE WORST COMMENTATOR EVER, and would have been GOD AWFUL as a commentator on NBA LIVE. Don Poier wasn't very good, but it could have been worse. I like what I've heard so far from Albert and Fratello.
