What do they have to hide ?

Postby 33 on Thu Aug 14, 2003 2:26 am

What do you guys think EA will put in NBA LIVE 2004 ?
What options, news exiting features like Dunk contest....?

EA is hiding something and they don't want to tell us for not being copied.
What is that ?????

Got an idea ?

Unless "hidden" official information on the game has leaked out somewhere, I don't think any of us have a clue. All we know is the game is going to be really good.

I think all the secrets are related to Dynasty Mode and its depth. I highly doubt we'll have a dunk contest or anything like that. Surely they would want a feature like a dunk contest to be a selling point, so we would know about it by now.

I'm thinking on the same lines as Andrew. There is nothing major feature in the game still a secret, but probably something along the dynasty depth. I really hope that I finally get to manage an NBA team as it is supposed to be managed. The franchise mode has been pretty much the same since Live 2000 and it's time for it to get a major upgrade.

Things that could be hidden about dynasty:
- Draft pick trading
- Three or more team trades that actually work
- Real money salaries
- Technical/flagrant foul system
- Team Chemistry (I hope)
- A totally revamped off-season
- Some sort of an all-star week end (though, they'd propably advertise this)
- A good trading engine that really does the math
- Good game AI
- Realistic play from teams (not Fisher scoring 35 and Shaq 10)
- Play maker, where you can make your own plays
- etc. etc.

Just a few things that pop into mind... These are all features that don't have that much selling power, but are still very important. Although I think it is wiser for EA to start leaking info on the secrets right before the release to really get people excited about the game, so there could be basically anything. Think of the rammifications if they came up with a dunk contest a week before the release, everybody would go and buy the game.

You probably catch my drift on this one... Something is boiling and EA and we have no idea what.

It may be frustrating that EA is keeping quiet about Dynasty Mode, but it's clever marketing. After all, it keeps us talking and maintains our interest in the upcoming title. If they told us everything, for some people it would be a case of "Is that it?", and their interest is lost.

I'm not sure if its clever. EA had us talking and intersted in live 20003, yet quite alot of us were disapointed. For me really it was the reduction of already existing features pre-2003. I just hope that some of the stuff that they're not telling equates to a return of features that were sorely missing in 2003.

It's clever in the sense that it's holding our interest and keeping us talking. Yes, NBA Live 2003 held our interest and kept us talking until the release, and yes, most people were disappointed that it wasn't the realistic game we hoped for. But that doesn't change the fact that EA were able to get people interested in the game by keeping various details under wraps.

IMO that would really stupid in the game. Stuff like that has already been talked about lots.... so... lets not start talking about that...

I don't think it's clever marketting. If they had something great, they'd say it by now... but they most likely just have more mini-features.

Also consider that the people who even know EA is holding something back are the hardcore fans (like people here) and I don't think we represent the mass market of EA, so it doesn't matter anyway.

I do find it funny how people are saying its a great game already without even playing it. Every time NBA Live is coming out people are too into the hype and not the game.

However, I really do hope I'm wrong and that they have some huge really amazing feature, but somehow I doubt it.

Since they already mentioned that in one of the previews, I don't think that is the secret.

If I recall correctly, I don't think we learned about Freestyle Control in NBA Live 2003 until September. EA won't necessarily release all the details about a new feature (such as Dynasty Mode), especially if they want to blow everyone away.

Also consider that the people who even know EA is holding something back are the hardcore fans (like people here) and I don't think we represent the mass market of EA, so it doesn't matter anyway.

In either case, keeping silent about Dynasty Mode will increase the impact it has upon gamers when we finally get to play the game ourselves.

I do find it funny how people are saying its a great game already without even playing it. Every time NBA Live is coming out people are too into the hype and not the game.

We're not saying the game is great, we're saying the game looks like it's going to be great. That's an assertion based on the information we have received so far. Not only are we getting sliders to tweak gameplay as we see fit, we're getting what seems to be vastly improved Freestyle Control and a new multi-season mode. There's certainly cause for optimism.

However, I really do hope I'm wrong and that they have some huge really amazing feature, but somehow I doubt it.

We already know that they do: Dynasty Mode. We just don't know much about it right now, except that it's supposed to be much better and deeper than the old Franchise Mode.

The gameplay is going to be much better then in Live 2003 just because of the sliders. They did wonders in NHL series and I expect them to do the same here.

And if they've done the long waited improvement of franchise into dynasty well it just can't get any worse then it is.

The game will simply be better... There is no question about it.

I don't think the two button shooting was their big secret...

There's more, there just has to be... And I think Andrew knows something. If we could only pry into that little Live-oriented mind of his...

I don't know anything else at this point. Most of my posts regarding NBA Live 2004 are merely speculation and hopes.

I'm just wondering if the previews being released are being paid by EA so they can't say anything bad about the game... :?

I really hope they have some great stuff like a dunk contest or something like that....
somehow I doubt it's the case but ....
I hope it's about something everybody could enjoy, so not only in the dynasty mode !
Some of us won't play with the dynasty mode, so that would be unfair.
I think about something in the gameplay maybe or some great features like 3point contest or great practice (practicing on what we want with the other player or shoot some three, some layup, some FTs...) or a one on one contest, or a two on two wich could be very amuzing with a friend !

EA, surprise me.

I really doubt it will be a dunk contest. EA would probably want to market the game as having such a feature.

Dunk Contest would get boring...Unless they do it in a...PaRappa Tha Rappa type of way(for lack of a better explaination).

This is not a flame, but I just wonder... How come someone doesn't play the franchise/dynasty mode??? It is the heart and soul of the game to be able to mold a team into a title contender and going all the way with it, and rebuilding after loosing your super-star. I don't see how this wouldn't attract an NBA fan???

I think I speak for the most people in these forums when I say: "I've hardly played anything else in Live since the multi-season mode was implemented..."

Have you even tried it???

Sometimes when I've had some time to kill after playing a game in a Franchise, I'll go into practice mode and take half court shots and whatnot, and sometimes I'll play an exhibition game. I've never played a single season since the inclusion of Franchise Mode though.
