A new version (v1.04) of the current roster update for NBA Live 2004 has been released, and is available to download here.

New in v1.04:
- 2003/2004 Rosters, updated through February 3rd, 2004
- Player ratings and positions updated for better substitution patterns
- Player ratings updated for better simulated and in-game performance
- All teams' offensive plays updated to reflect the real NBA
- 2004 All-Star teams added
- John Carroll added as Boston Celtics' coach (generic cyberface)
- Lenny Wilkens added as New York Knicks' coach (real cyberface)
- Lawrence Frank added as New Jersey Nets' coach (generic cyberface)
- Rick Carlisle added as East All-Stars' coach
- Flip Saunders added as West All-Stars' coach
- Improved installation

Thanks to everyone who provided feedback on v1.03. Feedback on the new version is most welcome, either via email or in the forums.

There should hopefully be fewer problems with the installation routine (thanks to Kq for his input) in this version. As usual, please base all feedback on the most up to date version. I'm always eager to improve the rosters any way I can, so if you spot an error or know of a way to make the patch better, by all means let me know.

What folder numbers are the rosters installed to? 000, 001,002 Please reply. I have another league roster occupying 000. Do I have to delete it or just change folders? Thx.

There's a typo in the readme (update.txt) that says it's a mod for NBA Live 2003.

Edit: Also, Michael Doleac's range at 12' is way too short. He's money off of the pick and roll with his jump shot from at least 15' or more. Yeah, I know he's a minor player, but he's been an important part of the Knicks' bench since Steph came over in the trade.

By editing the primary offense field in teams.dbf.

000, 001 and 002. Load your existing roster file and save it to another slot to avoid it being wiped. If you like, you could then shuffle the saves around by loading and saving once the NLSC patch has been installed.

It's no trouble changing them. It's just that MJ often wore a black sleeve on his leg when he played for the Bulls, which is why I left it as it was.

I´ve read in the forums that if we increase the dribling and passing for the big players (J. O´Neal, Kurt Thomas, etc...) that can soot from 18, 20 feet they will be able to have a more fluid shooting animation, like the SG or PG. Is this true? And if it is, does this new rosters include this particular thing?
If it doesn´t, wich big players do you guys think should have this shooting animation?

mobley shoots 39% from 3Pts and #5 in 3FG made, all star 3PT shootout contestant
3pt rating = 70

paul pierce shoots 33% from 3Pts and only#17 in 3FG made.
3pt rating = 80

How do you save to another roster spot and shuffle them around as you say? Need some assistance please. Can I go into the roster file in the directory and manually change the file number from 000 to 004? Will that work?

I didn't make any such changes in v1.04, but I could make them in v1.05, if you or anyone else would like to help me track down the players who could stand to have their ratings increased. However, I don't want to increase ratings just for the sake of increasing ratings - we have to consider the other functions of the player ratings when changing them.

Thanks for the corrections Tatho. I try to keep the jersey numbers up to date as best as possible, but sometimes the listings on NBA.com and ESPN.com are incorrect.

It's simply a matter of loading the files, saving them to new slots, then re-loading them and saving them to the desired slot. It's all done in the Load/Save screen.

The only sleeve Jordan ever wore (or atleast 99% of the games he played in the 90s, and 80s) as a Bull was the black/red one. It was one of his major gear signatures, a trademark if you will...

Don't know offhand how the ratings correspond to stats, but Allan Houston is having a great year from behind the 3pt line, even for him. Currently #9 in the NBA by percentage, with only one guy in the top 10 having shot more than he has. He's 40% for his career but is 42% now. Billups, the guy with more, also shooting fantastically, is about the same percentage this year.

Now, compare Houston's and Billups' ratings: 81 and 84. Now consider that Peja last year shot 41% and is rated 88. I look at him because he is known as a 3pt shooter (duh) so I would think his rating would be accurate based on last year's numbers (that's how the rating is decided for the default Live rosters, right?). So, Billups and Houston, by that scheme, should both be at least 88. In Billups' case, it's only a difference of 4-6 (should be 88-90, which would seem fair), but in Houston's is 7-8 points off, which is around 10% off from the 81 rating (should be 88-89?).

Note also that Peja is right there this year with the two of them, in fact 1% higher than he was last year, so maybe his rating needs to go up 1 or 2 (trying to be fair).

Edit: I have another bone to pick with the ratings. I just saw the Spurs roster... the Live default, but still: how in the world is Houston 68 overall when Ginobli -- Ginobli! -- is 67 and worse still, HORRY is 67?!? What were they thinking... or is that the formula for overall rating is dumb?

I wasn't aware Houston's rating was still 81. That can certainly be bumped up.

It's easier to rate forwards better because of the rebounding ratings; that's probably why Horry is as high as he is. I'll certainly adjust that in the next version.

He's also a very good defender, maybe worthy of a D icon
O and dont let me forget, he had better handles then he does in game, he dribbles like he's mark blount

keep that in mind for your next update, he should at least have a 3pt icon, he's fifth in the league with a .439 3pt pct....

While we're on the topic of the Rockets, Steve Francis is WAY over-rated in the game. In real life he's shooting something like 30% from downtown.

Edit: Francis is worse than I thought. He's 29.8% from beyond the arc, and his overall FG percentage is at 39.7%. Let's not forget he's only scoring 16.8ppg, and don't tell me that's because of Yao, because only attempts 11 shots per game and Francis attempts nearly 15 per game. Don't get me wrong, Steve Francis is a very good baller, but he is way over-rated in the game.

Edit 2: While on the topic of over-rated PGs, how about BD? Baron is shooting worse than Stevie: 38.4%. His 3PT rate is about the same as Francis, 30.3%. Bye-bye, 3PT icon.

do you watch rocket games?

perhaps you base that from the stat sheet but where do his missed attempts come from? like allen iverson, a lot of those come from fouled shots. man, steve francis gets a lot of beating driving to the hoop, and that explains why he shoots at that percentage.

if you give him an open look, he'll knock down those shots with ease.
