How do I see frame rate in Live 2004?

I've tryed editing the xstartup.cfg file to make the console available. But when I try the r_showfps 1 command, it does nothing. This variable still exists though, as you can see by typying r_showfps and it responds with r_showfps 0. So, how do I see frame rate in Live 2004?

Oh, and this is the BEST BASKETBALL GAME EVER. The gameplay and statistics are close to realistic than ever. You only need a bit of patience in the first couple of games to tune down the sliders.

Of course it still has some issues, but the positive things greatly outshine the negative ones.

You could always download fraps from http://www.fraps.com
Works for almost any game, or video and very easy to use.
