Are you guys sure you want a slam-dunk contest? I know this sounds like a kickass idea and all but somehow I don't think it would hold much replay value. After about a week you and your friends are all gonna know exactly which dunks get the highest rating and after that its gonna be like a game of Parappa the Rapper where the person who loses is the one who muffs a button combo or doesn't complete it in time. I'd rather have the three point contest,
back.
Although......... it might be kinda fun if they had a (loosely) tony hawk kinda' system where one button goes behind the back, one goes under the leg, one does a single pump, the L/R triggers rotate you, etc, then you string them together while your in the air. Plus you could play multiplayer and take turns being the set-up guy who uses a free-throw-esque meter to lob your alley-oop pass. Maybe its not such a terrible idea afta' all

, but its a whole different engine.

My vote goes to the slam dunk contest, but if there's going to be All-Star Weekend events, I'd want EA to bring back the three point shootout as well.
For the dunk contest to really work, there'd have to be some standard combinations for run of the mill attempts (360s, reverse dunks, standard dunk contest fare that will no longer score 45+), as well as some more complicated combinations to improvise new dunks. Obviously, there's only so much you could put in the game, but if were able to put together a unique combination, you would be able to perform an innovative dunk.
That would require a system similar to what Yellow Dart suggested, having control on whether you put the ball behind your back, kicked your legs out (always seems to gain extra points in the dunk contest) and so forth.

rookie game would be my first choice.

The problem with the rookie game, is it's the same as the all-star game.
I'd like to have a slam dunk contest, but I'm afraid EA would put too much time into it, and not enough into the rest of the game.
That's why I'd like the 3-point shoot-out.

The Rookie Game would still be good though. As it's basically the same concept as the All-Star game (except with 8 man rosters), it wouldn't be hard to implement.

a rookie game would be good.....

i also voted for the rookie game cuz i like the idea but a slam dunk contest but i think it would make things a little too complicated to execute the right dunk and stuff, and how long would it be interesting? A week or so, cuz there probably wouldnt be that many moves so it would be boring after a while and you cant keep inventing new dunks, or they will be very unrealistic and then everybody would be complaining again but oh well, well c bout everything

It would be the same with the 3 Point Shootout though. Those modes would only be included as side games, things to do when you have some time to spare. If a full All-Star Weekend was included in Dynasty Mode as well as being an exhibition mode, I'm sure it would be well-received.

three point shoot out for me...i am still wondering y the heck do they have to take out the three point contest..

it was fun but i am curious y they took it out...

They didn't so much take it out as they just didn't include it in NBA Live 2001 onwards. I can only speculate on the reason - my guess is that it wasn't considered a necessity when they rebuilt the game. It's a fun side game, but not the most important aspect of NBA Live, hence it was abandoned.

well sum ppl might get tired of the regular games easily so adding bonus feature as this wouldn't hurt..

Absolutely. I'm just offering reasons as to why it hasn't made an appearance since NBA Live 2000.

How about all in a menu called All*Star weekend.

i've voted 3-pt Shootout.
as Vins15 said, having this kind of mini game is a good idea.
I'd like to have some fun after a few hours regular games.
just like I want to play some penalty kicks in soccer game.

I would personally like to see all of them in the game as mini-games, similar to Maddens mini-games. If EA did this and the competitors didn't then that would be a major selling point for Live '04.

not all of them, cause a celebrity game, and hoop-it-up would be gay to play in a game. Like who wants to play with a bunch of washed up celebritys, because i doubt any of the "good" ones would let EA use them. But hoop-it-up is gay, fun to play in real life cause it just 3 on 3, but like in a nba sim, it wouldn't be very much fun, plus the skills challenge, I don't know how they would do that... but I don't think it'd be fun.... but Dunk Contest, 3-Point Shoot-out and Rookie Game

I've said this before, but the player should vote for the starters for the all-star game. The day before the game you get an option to vote, like in real life. So all of you can vote for Shaq, Kobe, and Steve Francis... Also, a player can vote for the superstar on their team, since I usually don't play the all-star game if none of my players are in it.
3 point shootout should make a return, even though it should have never left in the first place...
A slam dunk contest would be nice, but we don't really need one. I agree with sixerfan03, because if they put a dunk contest in, we'd probably get a p.o.s. game like Live 2001.

All-Star voting would be great. I'm sure everyone's noticed that there's often a weird selection on at least one of the teams. Additionally, the starting lineups are very rigid. The real All-Star game doesn't necessarily feature a player of each position in the starting five - just two guards, two forwards and a centre. A starting backcourt of AI and T-Mac, or a starting frontcourt of Duncan and KG should be a possibility.
Speaking of the game itself, I'd also like to see a better substitution pattern. Quite often at least two players on the CPU controlled All-Star team do not play, and the 5 bench players that do see action play only limited minutes.

Slam Dunk Contest
Mon Nov 03, 2003 5:15 pm
id like anyone they wanted to put but i think dunk contest might be a lil hard for them like the judging would be weird
but they definately should have the rookie game b/c thats just a game and they should have the coaches vote for all star and rookie players and in the news sections show how many votes the players got you vote might not matter in getting a plyer their but they should still have it
the 3pt contest should be added too
