Backcourt violation while inbounding

Sun Oct 19, 2003 3:20 am

I'm not completely sure, but I thought they allowed for you to pass in the backcourt while inbounding at mid-court in the NBA? In live you will get a backcourt violation. Is this rule still true in NBA or did live mess up?

In college you can, but not in the NBA.

Actually I've seen teams inbound the ball at midcourt on their defensive side.

EDIT: confirmed by sixerfan03 that this is possible ONLY in the last two minutes of the fourth quarter and overtime.

You can inbound in the backcourt within the final two minutes of the game.

Section III-The Throw-In

e. Any ball out-of-bounds in a team's frontcourt or at the midcourt line cannot be passed into the backcourt. On all backcourt and midcourt violations, the ball shall be awarded to the opposing team at the midcourt line, and must be passed into the frontcourt.
EXCEPTION: During the last two minutes of the fourth period and/or any overtime period, the ball may be passed anywhere (frontcourt or backcourt) on the court. [/quote]
