This list was posted on GameFAQs.com and on the Operation Sports board. These are the sliders that will be included in Live 2004.

They seem pretty thorough. CPU Long Range Shooting, Double-Team Effectiveness and Shot Block ability are going to see a lot of sliding if the gameplay is like last year.

My only concern is that there's no slider to cut down on the CPU Player's "sticky field." If you played on Superstar mode and tried to run or dribble past a computer you've experienced the way they 'hold' you...and even slide you behind them if you're going for a loose ball. I'd love to be able to turn that crap off.

What I am going to do is...

Turn down USER reach in fouls...
Turn down CPU long range shots...
Turn down CPU mid range shots...

I can't do well when I play by myself, with two people I like never lose but I just get frustrated when I am trying to play a game where they shoot 80 percent and I shoot 40 because I am uinable to run because my CPU teammates are too stupid.

EGarrett's right, the list is very thorough. I really like the CPU Fakeout Discipline slider. I'm gonna use the sliders to fix everything that was unrealistic in the previous Live series. Like more defensive rebounding compared to offensive (they did fix that in 2003), less blocks, and not too many steals. Also, I hate how I'm playing in difficult mode and the free throw shooting becomes impossible, I'm glad I'm able to change that now.

The new user slider controls also limits the user from being too powerful, which is a good thing to keep the realism. I'll probably limit my freestyle effectiveness.

whoa...im impressed with the amount of sliders. It might be a tough time finding the right gameplay for your tastes but im glad to have the ability to even find it.

Sliders seem wicked...im gonna reduce CPU stealing and intercepts.
I'll also reduce my blocking ability, last year i got so sick of getting like 7 blocks a game with my PG!! and i didnt even try that hard to do it either.

CPU On-ball Physical Defense may be the slider you would want to adjust

You know, you're probably right. For some reason when I was looking over the list I guess I was checking for another 'force field' slider or something like that in the list and my eyes scanned right over that without even making the connection. I like the possibilities with that one too...I wonder how that slider interacts with User Freestyle Effectiveness? I bet Fakeout Discipline controls how often the computer does that 'broken ankle' animation when you give it a fake and free-style effectiveness controls how much distance is travelled by the move or something.

I know a lot of people think sliders make game developers more lazy...but I'm really glad that EA put them in for this exact reason. We all play the game differently and this way we can adjust it so that it provides the right amount of realism or challenge for us given the way we play.

There are so many cool things you can do with sliders. After I get used to the game and start winning all the time I can turn all the user sliders down and all the cpu sliders up and see just how badly it beats me. :twisted: You can even make 'alternate format' games where you, for instance, turn long range shooting all the way up and inside scoring, dunk and layup percentage and medium range scoring all the way down and make teams have a pure outside shootout. It'll be fun coming up with things and sharing them on the boards.

Geez...only two more days to wait...must...be...patient...

Wow that slider list is fantastic. Thanks very much for posting it. This game is gonna have enough now to keep us coming back if we are beating it easily, or getting whooped! Nice work EA. :D

You know what'd be nice? If some of the values for the sliders were randomized.

That is, we're going to set the game speed to like 50 or 40 percent, and we know what we're getting--a slower paced game where it's not always run and gun, which is what most people want--but we know that realistically, some games vary from fast paced to slow pace in real life.

Also, we know that in the NBA the number of fouls called vary from game to game.

It'd be cool if we could set an upper and lower limit for the sliders, and let the computer randomize within those limits. Then, we'd get realistic gameplay, but not every game will be quite the same pace.

But I like the sliders, and once I play the game, I probably won't even worry about randomizing. Worse comes to worst, I can always manually set the sliders.

it would be even better if they had some default templates for different types of gameplay.

if i select "slower gameplay", then the slides would adjust accordingly to reflect that type of gameplay. say... gamespeed and freestyle effect sliders would go down, while fatigue effect slider would go up
if i select "faster gameplay", then those slider settings would have reverse effect.
if i select "physical gameplay", then the corresponding sliders would change accordingly.

just a thought. :wink:

Thats a kickass idea, and mayyybe even possible for the PC version... i mean its just gotta be some numbers in a database file somewhere, one would think. Although hopefully just playing different teams will dictate a difference in tempo and such, I think varying some of the sliders a little between games would keep me on my toes and kind of simulate a difference in officiating.

Thats a KILLER idea! How awesome that would be to have a surprise every game you play and have to work out how to win. Awesome.

I assume though, that you can change the sliders whenever you want. So maybe randomly (kind of) move the sliders all over the place before each game (not too extreme though).
