Discussion about NBA Live 2004.

Hey,
I bought Madden 2004 for the PC yesterday. It is absolutely the best video game ever. Or I should say, sports game ever.
The features it has stomps on and humilaites the Live 2004 features.
The Owner mode is the craziest.
You own the team, own the stadium, can set ticket prices, concession prices, parking prices, merchendise prices, advertisment (TV, radio, billboards, and print) prices. Can upgrade the stadium to add arcade rooms, cafes, and stores, etc.
You can move to a new city, change the team name, build a new stadium, rename it, get sponsors for your stadium, (I got a contract from Gatorate, and my stadium was changed to Gatorate Stadium. You get TV contracts, hire, fire coaching staff, training staff, make contract extensions, see your income, expenses, attendance, get stadium and city info.
Or you can just play franchise witout owner mode, because when this kind of stuff was mentioned for LIVE, people said they didnt want to get into the whole business aspect of the game.
If Live adds this to Live 2005, copies Madden, then Live 2005 would be the best game EVER.
Yes.

And also, the NBA should stop being little babies, and let video game companies intigrate real money instead of damn points. I dont see why nba games shouldnt have money, every other sports game has money, football, hockey, baseball, just not basketball. Its damn stupid, someone please beat the shit out of david stern. The NBA is so strict about everything, I dont get it. But maybe you do, so explain this crap
..please.

Dynasty Mode is suppose to be equivalent to Owner Mode. And none of us here have Live 2004 so we don't know if it's good or no.

No it isn't.
And we do know what will be in it.

Would you care to enlighten it for us gamers, who don't have the game yet, why it isn't ?

Why would we want them to hook up with Madden? so they code the game so its unpatchable? About the only thing you can do is make uniforms...Wow...Live we can patch faces and just about anything else we want in the game, while in Madden the code is coded so that not even a external roster editor can be made

i think madden could benefit from some of the things Live is doing also like the authentic gear and the cutscenes.Madden also needs to bulk up their player models to NFL size bodies.

Yeah, but Live needs to get into the same league as Madden. Cuz Madden is 10 times better than Live. Look at the features in Live and Madden, Madden laughs at the Live features.
And cut scenes, and classic jerseys, shoes, accessories aren't that important. How do they make the game better? If you buy the shoes or socks in dynasty mode, you won't even see them when the guy is playing on the court, unless you play on press cam and zoom in all the way on the shoe when you play. Those things don't do much.
Madden has the Owner mode as I mentioned, and it's hell fuken fun. Live dont have a feature like that. You only a GM, we had that since Live 2000. Its gettin boring. We already need a new feature like Owner mode or Live is gonna get pissed on because other basketball games will put that in after Madden. And that mode is very popular now. I bet you that ESPN basketball next year will have the owner mode, and inside drive 2005, and all the others. Live will be the only one with still the boring GM mode.
Im not saying Live 2004 is bad, but it can be better, and I aint also saying that they should have the owner mode in 2004, but defenitwly 2005.

madden is the best football game they have put out yet, but it could definately use some of the new features coming out in live. owner mode is nice but when you start having money trouble you may have to gut your team for cheaper players, or could even lose your team. and some of the features are misleading. when you go to set prices in the off season you may notice you're below the league average and hike them up to get on par with everyone else, but you may actually end up losing money and fans depending on the area you are in. especially with merchandise prices, it's better to be below the average because fans will stop buying if the prices are too high for the economy range. with contracts you have to be careful what moves you make because you can accumulate a lot of cap penalties if you release players, trade them, or they retire. so it can become a pain after a few seasons, and the fun of it may lessen some.
the preseason training camp is another thing that can become useless after some time. if you have a rookie hb you want to get some rating points, but your starter could use a higher break tackle rating, you have to choose which you want to do or what will benefit your team more. you only get one shot with each drill whether they improve or not. you should actually be able to at least run every player through the drill that will help them once, thus you could improve your veteran a little as well as that rookie.
from the looks of live's off season activities, it will be beyond madden in feeling like the real thing. madden is supposed to have crowd booing at the draft, which the pc version didn't even get, but i would rather have live's draft studio and the draft boards and such. and with the training modes madden could use more specific drills for improving skills for instance moving or stationary targets for qb's to improve accuracy, instead of throwing to three different receivers but having to get the ball through a big ring first, and not getting any credit if the wr doesn't catch the ball. or db's should have to go against real wr's in their drills instead of running and catching or batting down passes from a machine to different spots on the field. live appears to be more skill specific with their drills, but it is yet to be seen how far you can go with one player in improving them.
the editing features are purely below par. if the cpu relocates their team to another city, and after a few years they will and very often, the team will have from that point on a generic helmet with no emblems on it, and a uniform that looks like a high school team. the first time you see it is not so bad, but when you have six teams that have relocated and four of them all have the same basic color scheme but different variations of the uniform's, it looks like every team is penn state only with different colors and stripes. the stadium editing feature which supposedly has millions of combinations is not what was advertised, the actual options that YOU can change are maybe around 20 if that many. you can't really design anything it's more like do you want four or eight stadium lights, tunnels or stairs, or an open dome or closed roof etc. not really much to play with. the uniform editor has restrictions, for some options if you change sock color the pants color automatically changes with it.
as for presentation and cutscenes, there are some serious bugs there. when a rb is stopped behind the line at midfield , you may see a scene where he throws the ball over the crossbar as if celebrating a td. or the qb down on his knees pumping his fists as if he threw a td, when he was really just sacked for a 12 yd loss. replays seem to be accurate, but the cutscenes appear to be random, and not specific to the play at all sometimes. in live i haven't seen a player giving high fives after getting his shot smacked to another zip code. they are nice but in madden, but live is more accurate to the reality of the game.
madden is a fun game, and i am enjoying the owner mode, though the roster restrictions limit what moves you can make too much, and it is very easy to get in debt if you make too many moves, or sign players to long or high salary contracts, but i think madden can benefit more from some of live's new feature's than live can from madden.

I hope they don't get together otherwise the NBA Live curse of mediocrity will pass to madden

Madden 2004 PC leaves alot to be desired.
Not to mention that making new rosters in Madden 2004 PC is nearly impossible due to the restrictions they put in.
TruForm doesn't work with ATI cards and Stadium Shadows don't work properly with Radeon and GeForce FX based cards.
The Cut Scenes are out of sync like the above guy mentioned.
Commentary is dull and out of sync sometimes. Player names that were mentioned in Madden 2003 aren't mentioned in Madden 2004. They call them by jersey number in some cases. Vinny Testeverde is one example.
There is a serious sack issue that needs to be resolved if you play coach mode.
They took out online franchise mode even though they had it in Madden 2001 and 2002.
It just seems every year Madden goes 1 step forward and 2 steps back.

They add a look of realism. It's just important as the rest of the graphics. Also, do you realize how much of an improvement those cut scenes are.Instead of looking at a bunch of names and numbers you get to see what just happened live and it gives you a sense of emotion.Right now I hate the way Madden players are so small and generic looking.Live experts always say that it needs to be more like madden and Madden experts say it needs to be more like live, and all I'm saying is they both can take a lesson from each other.

yeah, but ..................................
Madden is better than Live
Sat Oct 11, 2003 12:26 pm
well, it would be nice to have some great madden features in live. but thats a football engine, it don't function the way a basketball one does, its not gonna fit right, and it would get too complicated. i say they should take some ideas from madden.
