the dunking on live 2004

Postby johnjohn on Tue Oct 07, 2003 8:13 pm

2 thing have bothered me in the latest nba live games , and acording to the videos i'v seen it hadn't changed

1. the dunking noises. There is enough excitement and beauty in dunking without those explosion noises. Every time a guy goes to dunk it sounds like a bomb went off, all u should hear is the rattling of the hoop.

2.ally oops . they got the gameplay looking fine but the ally oops still ,like the old nba lives, don't look real. the only basketball game that got the it right is nba 2k3

You are definitely right about the dunking that noise is just annoying!
But I don't think the alley-oops in NBA 2K3 are that good though!

The dunking sound effects are a minor thing that actually do get to me. Usually I'm not overly concerned about such minor details, but the booming/crashing sounds just seemed too arcade-ish, which took away from the atmosphere.

Still, as long as the dunks themselves are realistic, the sound effects remain a small quibble.

hmm, i was/am botherd with the sound(s) aswell...
it's not a big thing, but it realy annoys me, every time you dunk, there's the fu**ing noise... every damn time

but i think the alley-oops look very nice. the only problem i got with those is that when the player goes up, he doesn't look at the ball, but at the rim. and then, like of magic, he get's the ball prefectlly in his hand...

The "rond, carré,croix, triangle" means "circle, square, x and triangle.

speaking of alley oops, i think they fixed it up so it's not dunking 100% time.. if i recall correctly, i was watching a video from nbalive.com and it showed Sprewell gettin an alleyoop layup.. it was pretty cool.

I think the alley oops are a vast improvement on previous versions. I couldn't stand watching the alley oops in 03. There was one very repetitive animation (the one where the player slams it with two hands and flops his legs around for a while). It was very boring. From the videos I've seen this year, I'm am actually quite impressed with the alley oops. At first I wasn't impressed with the general dunking though, alot of repeated animations from last year, but through some new video footage, I've seen some new ones, and they actually look pretty sweet. The layups two, some nice additions, especially when linking them up with the new pro-hop feature.

This aside, the game sounds awesome anyway, can't wait.

One more thing, the way the replay shows the alley oops from three different angles is kind of nice, but it happens every time you get an alley, it shouldn't happen all the time, and it could even happen for other highlights, like blocks, or layups/dunking in general.

cheers

There's also a nice alley-'lay-up' in the POTD vid from IGN with the Wolves and Mavs. I also really like those one handed passes.

Yeah that was kinda nice. Oh yeah! Anyone seen any tip ins or tip dunks? Theres no better dunk to watch than a huge tip dunk when a player rises over a bunch of people and throws it down (I'm thinking numerous Dominique Wilkins highlights people). Live, or any other games for that matter matter, has never truly captured tip ins/dunks. I remember Total NBA 98 actually had some good tip ins/dunks, but not great, has anyone heard anything about live 04?

But no player actually makes a sound like that when they dunk.

yea true but it is still a video game
if they put what they really said on the nba court the game would be R or X rated.
i used to like the tarzan sound too in nba hangtime when they did those flips.i bet no real nba players make that noise either eh?

No, but NBA Hangtime was an arcade basketball game. A simulation should be realistic. Fun, but realistic. I'm not talking about players' trash-talking, I'm talking about sound effects. When you watch an NBA game, you don't hear players making a sound like a jet taking off.

Obviously, you're free to enjoy such effects and I respect your opinion. But I and many Live fans would prefer not to have arcade-ish sound effects.
