Dynasty mode and ten man mo cap is nice but...

Postby Bredrin on Thu Oct 09, 2003 9:39 am

Does any one even realise how great a feature off the ball control is for a basketball game??? As if ten man motion cap wasnt great for player movement already. Ea has added a feature that separates itself from all other games. Since basketball is all about motion this feature actually serves to put a user in the game and really create opportunities for success against cpu or human (btw it must be damn fun to play using off the ball control with a friend). Even the problem of constant double teaming in the post which I have heard mentioned should be an easy thing to burn the cpu on with this feature. Imagine being double teamed with two defenders backing you up in the corner about to steal your ball and u take control of the open man and make him cut right to the basket for the score. This can be utilized in so many ways its not even funny. Controlling the guy on the break making him step outside for a three if the defense collapses on his path to the basket... the possiblities are so many. I cant see how other games will not use this sort of feature in their games in the future. Its even better than ten man mo cap to me for the simple fact that you create the movement even if your offense is stagnant ... you can make something happen when given the right opportunity. Steve touched on this feature lightly in his impressions but he realised how great a feature it was. Especially since it isnt the most hyped feature or even the most mentioned around here.

Yeah, that paragraph thing is a kicker... Have you ever played Live with the player lock? It is pretty much the same thing here. Only now you can control another player for a short period of time instead of the whole game. Player lock enabled one player to totally dominate the game.

And Bredrin a reality check... If you are pushed into a corner with two guys on top of you, well you ain't gonna pass the ball to anyone... With luck you will be able to get the ball past the defenders. Or atleast in real life it would be like this. The best solution to a situation like this is just to bounce the ball off of a guys leg and out of bounds... And calm the situation down. So don't get too excited about passing to the open man... Cause it is quite hard, especially for those shoot-first players, that most of the time shoot when the situation gets rough.

It's a cool feature, but I really hope that I won't have to use it that much and I can count on the 10-man-mo-cap to do the work for me. Cause that's what it was made for.

The really great addition to the game this year are the gameplay sliders... Those are the ones that will make all the difference in the game and you can finally get the game to represent basket ball as you know it, and not something a programmer that has seen a basket ball last time in the sixth grade thinks it is.
