player performance after coming back from injury

Postby TRUball on Wed Jul 02, 2003 1:53 am

I think a player's performance should alter after coming back from a surgury, not just come back and get the same stats. Like take vince carter for instance, before his injury he was the best dunker in the league. but now after he came back from the surgury he bearly dunks like that now, sure he has had a few flash backs like when he jumped over tim duncan. :o But also his stats has dropped(partly because he is playing more of a team game) but still. And maybe if you were averaging 20, 5, and 4 when you were playing though an injury, and you get surgury you come back even better now and average like 26, 7, and 6 or something. I think that would add more realism to the game, because it doesn't make sense having you come back the same because that bearly ever happens, your game isnt as good anymore or it is better, but it wouldn't stay the same.

He's also been even softer after his injury.

I like that idea. Grant Hill isn't the same player before his ankle injury. With small injuries it should be only temporary, but with major injuries, the effects should be more lasting.

There is a truth in what u guys are saying but its just not always the case, its these two examples who are always given, a player could play as well after his injury or even better, its not always the case that a players stats decreases, iverson has had numerous little injuries and his stats are still good. Also with carter, he still wasn't playing on a fully healthy leg so it really shouldnt count imho.

Sounds like an ok idea...but it sounds quiet random....so I dont know if they could implement it into the game properly...maybe it wud have more to do with the Endurance Rating...Not a bad idea.

what would you guys think if they gave players weak points and individual injury frequency ratings so that you would see carter injured more than t-mac instead of everything so random. and the more they get injured, a certain aspect of their game deminishes e.g. carter's knees keep gettin damaged therefore his jumping ability is somewhat lessend. or ray allen's wrist constantly keep getting injured which would result in his shooting rating to be lower... just an idea

Not a bad idea, but consider that it isn't always the case. Michael Jordan broke his foot three games into his second NBA season, missed 64 games, then exploded for 63 points against Boston in the playoffs that same year. He also had a pretty decent career after that to say the least.

For the idea to work properly, there would have to be some kind of Recovery rating that determined how quickly a player could bounce back from injury, and whether their game would suffer.

yeah i like that idea alot better. a injury rating to measure how constantly they get injured, a recovery rating to measure how quick they are to heal, and a resilience rating to measure how much his other ratings will be affected by the injury.

it could possibly work with the system that madden uses. a rating for injuries, which determines the frequency that a player gets injured, and a rating for toughness, which determines how fast the player recovers from his injury. the thing to really work out would be the types of injuries that occur, and what the right lengths of times would be, because you could possibly have one player getting injured every 3-4 games for 2 or more weeks at a time with a low inj rating, but a high toughness rating. but this is a good idea and should be kept around for the next wishlist for ea to maybe consider looking into soon. it could also give us a deeper roster management system with ten day contracts for short term replacements, etc.

Check my thoughts on personalized DSTATS... They could have a way of implementing this quite easily.

It would effect the simulation times, but I wouldn't mind.

The personalized DSTATS thing can be found in "Miscellanious hopes for Live 2004" or something like that on the second page.

I think it would solve lots of problems... The personalized DSTATS.
