All-Star Weekend in 2005 or later?

Postby Snilrch on Sat Nov 29, 2003 2:01 pm

Is it possible that EA are secret developing slamdunk contest and will put it together with 3 point shootout on the next NBA Live as the All-Star Weekend feature? That's maybe the reason they keep leaving out the 3 point shootout. Cuz now Sega and 989 already have dunk contest. EA might wait until they finish making the dunkcontest and make it as a new feature for the next Live. Think so?

Ohhhh snaps they got dunk contest on games now????? Man I remember buyin In the zone 99 just for the dunk contest, and it SUCKED.

Even if they had a hidden game that was Jordan Vs. Bird style, and they had the same dunk contest from there, I'd be satisfied. And yeah I miss the three point shootout, especially when playin with some homeboys.

If any video game by EA Sports gets a Dunk Contest it will probably be NBA Street...because you have to press certain buttons to dunk it in volume 2 so they might implement some of those thingys in it...and air combos which would OWN :D

yeah i agree there needs to be some extra features for live, but the thing that gets me is that ea left out things like the 3-point contest but how hard can it be to put things like that in the game??? thats my beef, i also think that 2-ball, around the world, S.P.O.T. and other types of games should be included for when your with a group of people, nah mean?

but i appreciate the efforts there putting into the game in other areas, but your always wanting more then u got right :)

dunks????

Postby and1phantom on Mon Dec 01, 2003 8:49 pm

:( The Dunks in Nba live 2004, I find just straight up Suck, or is it just me, because i see that there are no windmills only the 360 windmill and the dunks aren't that vicious as they were in 2003. I haven't played the game too long but it never takes me too long to go through the dunks and I'm not impressed, holla back if theres something I missed

I think that's a good thing. I was sick of ppl doing crazy-ass dunks in traffic everytime down the floor. As you probably know it's not like that in the NBA. The only thing they should add in now, is the ability to do sick dunks on breakaways or if you TOTALLY beat your man off the dribble and there's no help D.

July 14, 2004 - Dee Brown pumped his Reeboks and covered his eyes for fame. Spud Webb defied gravity, The Human Highlight Film made the impossible seem possible, Michael Jordan found his Air and Kenny Walker took to the Sky.

Legendary events from legendary players…well, except for Sky Walker, but the NBA Slam Dunk contest is year-in-and-year-out one of the most looked forward to exhibitions in all of sports. This is the event that was introduced to the mainstream with Dr. J's leap from the free throw line and continues to capture basketball fans' imaginations with air-walking maneuvers like J-Rich's between the legs rip and Vinsanity hanging on the rim by his elbow.

Basketball video games have tried to capture this competition in the past, from Jordan Vs. Bird to the Dance-Dance Revolution like button presses of ESPN College Hoops last year, but none of them quite captured the flare, the imagination, or the spectacle of the event. You never felt like you were creating a dunk, just running through the motions and hoping you hit the button combo fast enough.

Those days are officially over.

NBA Live 2005 is set to introduce the most revolutionary Slam Dunk contest ever seen in a video game. But to imagine what it plays like, think more T-Hawk than T-Mac as the trick system is the free-flowing type you're more likely to find in a skateboarding game than anything you've ever seen (or played) on the hardwood.

First thing you need to know: Not everyone in the NBA can enter the slam dunk competition. The Live team has separated people out who fit in the specific category of "dunker" so to speak, so you can't bring in the likes of Yao or Speedy Claxton…not that you'd really want to anyway if you were actually hoping to win. You'll choose from a wide array of the usual suspects, LeBron, Vince Carter, Kobe, J-Rich, and any other player you could think of with a poster making the defense look silly as they throw one down on their heads.

After selecting a player, you'll notice that the dunk competition takes place in a custom arena, actually it's only half of an arena so the developers at EA Canada can utilize more polygons to make the character models look even better than they do in the game. The player heads have really been a focus of the development team this year, making sure that every player on every team has a face that is actually his (unlike last year), not to mention facial animations including eyes that move from side to side depending on where they're looking. These enhancements have been made to the models throughout the game, but because of the increased number of polys in the dunk contest, you'll really appreciate the difference even more in that mode.

Once the participating players have been selected, that's when the fun begins. You'll see other NBA players sitting on the sideline with camcorders cheering their favorite competitors and teammates. The judges, who will be legends from the game, sit at the table and keep score. And the 3D crowd really gets into the action as the music kicks off and the players show off their hops.

And of course, this is where things get interesting. Like I said, think more Tony Hawk than any basketball game out there, and just because it's a dunk contest, don't think that players are going to jump over the backboard or catch on fire like NBA Jam. At the same time, the crew at EA Sports realizes this is a game, and because of that, will allow gamers with quick enough reflexes to pull off some of the most amazing dunks you probably haven't even dreamt of yet…like the bounce between the legs, cartwheel, grab the ball as it comes down off the backboard, swing it between both legs like a figure eight, tomahawk throwdown. That's right, that's a move you can actually pull off. Just don't think you're going to be able to do it right away. Like all good things, this mode takes practice, but it's a mode so fun, it can literally eat up hours as you look for the best angle to approach each dunk.
