how do i guard shaq?

im playing with my friend on ps2 ,he is using lakers and he always let shaq post up,and shaq always score easy baskets when he's at the post,my friend usually just use the shoot button instead of dunk when near the basket,ive been using detroit pistons but i find it hard to guard shaq..what should i do?

Take charge...Especially if he tries to back down..
Or just try to time the blocks...although I HATE IT when people do that since blocking is too easy in this game.

Most people can make free throws consistently with any player, so fouling rarely works for me. Double him and test his shooting. If he knocks down shots, try and stop him from setting up his offense, and whenever you stop him, try and get a fast break. A few straight fast breaks with some defensive stops can really frustrate your opponents. Richard Hamilton is pretty quick so you can use him. If you practice a lot with Ben Wallace you should be able to block any shots taken on him, too, so you should get good with him.

Never tried it, really. My friends and I don't like using the elite NBA Live 2004 teams (Lakers, Mavs) because it tests your flexibility more. I would get bored of using the same team every time. Maybe that's why its so hard for me to keep a dynasty for more than 30 games...

If you double team him inside, then you gotta watch out for my boy Kobe thatz standing outside for the easy three. Just do like me, use a 2-3 Zone.

I use the 2-3 zone a lot, although watch for Kobe to rip it apart...be careful with the outside shooters. Also double team and hack the bejesus out of him.

When Shaq gets the ball have your computer gaurd him and you drop down to double team. You will either get a steal or he will be forced to pass it back out.

no, actually take charges. this really works, cause shaq is so strong, he just pushes/backs down, and all the defender is doing is leaning on him, so just take charges. it works for me when i play lakers in my dynasty, cause they are a hadr team to beat, so if you take charge, he'll have to come out the game, giving you and equal game in the frontcourt.

When I play the zone, I always go to the Defensive Matchups and put all of the other team's outside shooters on high pressure, or else they can kill you with threes.

If you don't feel like following those "realistic basketball strategies" that are being proposed...here's a trick I always use...

When Shaq gets position in the post and starts his "call for the ball" animation...switch control to the person guarding Shaq...then tap the "take charge" button repeatedly.

Not only does it break the "sealed off" animation...but when your player hops forward into the take-charge position...it pushes Shaq a good foot or two away from the basket. Within 2 or 3 hops he's way out of position. One or two more and he's almost at the three point line.

Try it. Effective and funny to watch...

the only thing i do (and im ranked in top 100 online ) is just get in front of shaq first. see most likely the player giving shaq the ball, will be on the side. you should most likely have that player if your not being cheap and playing cpu D! so what you do is get your best defensive PG and stand in front of shaq. as soon as he passes it to him try to steal it by tappin the steal button and half the time they will intercept the pass. sometime they wont. if u dont intercept it, keep your guard on him then the big man thats already guarding him. you call a double team and another person comes over to help so it will basically be 3 people guarding him. this strategy cause alot of confusing to the opponent and if he tries to pass the ball out sometime out of control, the cpu will intercept the pass. ITS A GOOD STRATEGY AND IT WORKS FOR ME MOST OF THE TIME! You have to have knowledge and skill to stop these moves

let computer control Beast 2 defend Shaq,u may control Billups or Hamilton 2 steal the ball,don't worry about Shaq's poor pass,even if the ball passed 2 Kobe,your guard is quick enough 2 defence.another tactic is let Campbell defend Shaq and you control Beast block behind him

try pressuring the point guard. if your successful indouble teaming the point guard or the player on shaq's side, the ball will not reach shaq.

The Lakers on superstar in the first quarter will usually go to shaq. All you have to do is use the right analog stick and hold up to throw up your hands. Don't move around, don't try to push him out. Just keep steady and keep your hands up. He can't back you down. ( at least I don't think so cause he never does with me) so he'll pass out, but more frequently, he'll just turn around and layup. Most of the time he'll get an offensive. (If your not moving around) after 2 -3 stops, the CPU won't go to shaq (foul trouble), you'll see him roving the arc untill the CPU is ready to shoot, you'll see make a move to the inside, usually when the balls with Bryant, switch to the man gurading the shooter cause he's gonna put it up. To take Shaq out of the equation, just like in the NBA, get him into foul trouble early. Works everytime.
