Is 9600XT good enough to play Live with full detail or not?!

Tue May 25, 2004 12:24 am

Hi,

I was wondering if a Radeon 9600 XT is powerfull enough to play NBA Live 2004 with all detail settings at max and still retain fluid framerates or will I need a more powefull card then from ATI or NVidia?! Also, is it usefull to use FSAA and AF in this game (like does it make much of a difference) and how bad does this hurt framerates with a 9600 XT?!

PS: you can download FRAPS here: http://www.fraps.com/downloads.htm to check your framerate while playing. Please tell me what framerates you can get. Sombody told me that +80fps is considered "smooth gameplay" but I don't know if this is correct.

Anybody who has (or had) a 9600 XT can please tell me what I can expect when playing NBA Live 2004 with this card?!

Thanks in advance for all good feedback!

Mike.

How fast is your processor? Before my GeForce4 MX440 conked out, I was getting fluid framerates with all details maxed. I know that 9600XT is more powerful than my Geforce 4 so you should be able to play fluidly with everything maxed. The only way to know for sure is to try for yourself :D

Yeah I'm using a 9000 semipro with almost everything maxed out, 1024x768 res, and it runs fine for me. You should be alright I'd bet.

Doubt it, but largely depends on your processor and how anal you are when it comes to your perception of "smooth gameplay".

Using fraps, I max out at 35fps on max details with NO AA and NO AF @ 1024x768 (or even 1280x1024 - makes no diff in this game for me since i'm cpu limited). My system is nothing special: athlon xp1800+, 512mb DDR266, via kt266a chipset, Radeon 9500pro (which is more or less equal or slightly faster in performance compared with the 9600XT).

If you find 35fps fluid or if you have a faster processor than me, then go for it.
If you're looking for >60 fps (normally what ppl consider "smooth" gameplay), then get a 9800pro and a cpu > 2.5ghz.

P.S. AA and AF are pretty useless in this game and not worth the performance hit. Can't notice much difference with AF @ 8X. AA is easily noticeable on court lines and sometimes on the players, but to me it's not a big deal. With 2XAA and 8XAF @ 1280x1024, my framerates drop by about 5-7fps.
