How to have no sound during online game

Hi everyone
I'm often playing online by direct ip with a friend. We like to speak to each other during the game, using skype. But the sound of the game makes it quite difficult.
We turned off the sound of the game via the "preferences" menu on the main menu (by putting all the sound sliders to 0), but when we start an online game, the sound comes back, and there's no way to turn it off during the game, cause during an online game, there's no "preferences" menu when you pause the game.
So here's my question:
How can you turn off the sound during an online game? Is anyone having the same problem?
I will appreciate any help
PS : I'm french and so is the language of my nba live. I hope the menu name I mention is the same in english.
