NBA Live 2004: The Whole F*ckin' Game is Scripted!!

Mon May 03, 2004 1:21 pm

When I played a game against the Bucks with my Pistons, I took a commanding lead in the first quarter being up by like 20 points just by causing turnovers, (which the CPU has no control over when it comes to it's cheapness to bring back the loosing team.) and KVH never missed from the field taking highly defended shots with defenders like Ben and Rasheed on him in his face and everything.

In the second quarter, I layed off the pressure defense so I wouldn't cause any turnovers because I was beginning to think that this game was just being set up or somthing. The whole Bucks squad was nailing three point bombs that were contested by my best defenders like Lindsey Hunter, Ben Wallace, Rahseed Wallace, and Tayshaun Prince. Every time I had the ball on offense, I couldn't score for nothin. I missed dunks, layups, and wide open jumpshots. The Bucks went on like a 20-1 run in the last 5 mins of the quarter.

I went back to the pressure defense and won the game by a blowout margin of 18 points. The odd part was that the Bucks shot 63% from the field for the whole game while I shot 42%. The CPU cheated my FG% just to give the Bucks a chance to catch up which they didn't because of the limited FG attempts they were given due to turnovers.

Next, I played a game with the Lakers (CPU) and the Pistons (ludacris06). Already being curious with the CPU's lame attempt to cheat me last game, I adjusted the game sliders so that the CPU cannot make a shot because all of their sliders dealing with shooting were decreased to 0. My sliders were pushed up to the max meaining I should be able to make every shot, which I wasn't.

The CPU was bricking everything at first, then I took a huge lead on them where it's impossible to make a comeback. The CPU started making 3 pointers, layups, and dunks that they were missing in the first half. The sliders for those categories were turned to 0....

Then I started bricking shots....then I just came to conclusion, the game is set up to favor the loosing team, making hard work on defense useless unless you're trying to steal the ball.

This right here is a gamekiller alone, and if 2005 happens to have this, it will be crap no matter how good everything else is.

turn off cpu assist

There is indeed a comeback code that allows the CPU to get back into the game. Even with CPU assist turned off, the CPU will make comebacks. I do see the purpose of it, though I too hope it's toned down a little so that it's more realistic in NBA Live 2005.

Hugh ???

I know about the Cpu Assist , but is there a actual comeback code
where someone can actually hit a string of buttons together to have a
late Rally ???

Tue May 04, 2004 5:52 am

I mean the comeback thing is cool, but every single game this happens. Instead of cheating a player's field goals, have some clutch rating for certian players instead of the whole team.

I agree. It would be kind of boring if the computer never had a chance to come back, but a lot of the shots they make are just ridiculous. Even worse, I'm pretty sure the code makes you miss more shots on offense, as well. They should come out stronger late in the game, but if players play some TOUGH D, they should be able to stop them. And the clutch rating is a very good idea.

It's not a cheat code, it's written into the game's coding (or AI if you prefer).

the clutch rating was in Live 2000, but like many other features they removed it since ... :)

Are Rookie and Starter the levels that don't have this comeback tendency?

Wed May 05, 2004 2:10 pm

The comeback code is barely noticeable on Rookie and Starter difficulty, though the game isn't very challenging on those levels (unless you're completely new to the NBA Live series or basketball games in general).

March Madness 2004 uses the same engine as Live 2004...but in March Madness they have a slider for "Momentum Swings" which actually controls how often you go on those "cold streaks" where you brick dunks while the computer drains threes.

The thing is...if you get a couple of key steals and buckets you can go on a hot streak while the computer cools off and misses layups.

I think calling a timeout helps control those either way.

Can anybody tell me what CPU assist really do? What's the different when it's on and off? Can you give me an example?

About the "come back" code, I also think that's very annoying. I hope EA can add an option to allow the player to turn it on or off. Besdies that, since there is a "come back" code, it make sense that EA should add a "give up" code too. Right now, CPU never use its bench at the garbage time.

CPU Assist has been explained many times before, so very quickly: When turned on, it will assist the team that is behind so that they can get back into the game, whether it's the CPU or User team that is trailing. The losing team will be able to hit a lot of shots, while the team in the lead will start bricking shots, missing dunks, and fail to make defensive stops.

lol that's weird. i have it off (no wonder i have a hard time coming back) but the CPU always comes back easily. but i don't. maybe because of superstar level?

The comeback code ensures that the CPU can make a comeback regardless (you can hold it off if you don't ease up at all), but CPU Assist works for the user too.

Damn! I didn't know that. I need to turn it off. Thank you! Andrew!

I really notice it late in game. It doens't necessarily make you lose or win, it just frustrates the hell out of me. For example, there have been at least 3 times where I went for the game winning dunk, and misteriously I happen to blow the dunk... :(

i dunno about u guys but this so called "Comeback Code" has NEVER happened to me

It doesnt happen to me much either. I know that it usually happens in the 3rd quarter but I usually can keep that quarter under control which pretty much secures the win for me.

I play in All-Star level and I don't have the problem. I think the solution may be playing at All Star level and tweaking the sliders to make the game more difficult
