Defend the key efficiently!?

Postby Terry on Tue Mar 23, 2004 7:21 am

Many people suggested that when the big guy get the ball and work on the post, double him then he will pass the ball back to perimeter. I do that a lot and it works to me. But I still have problem with the following situations. I will be appreciated if some of you can give me some advice.

1. I am sure that you have seen this in the game. The CPU's guard lob the ball to the forward to try an ally-oop even my man is in his path. But because my man is there, he will make a layup in the air instead.

2. The CPU pass the ball to the big man in the post. Then he turns immediately (it's not a power dribble) and bounce my defender away and make a layup. That's so quick and I don't even have time to switch.

3. The same situation as above. This time, the CPU's big man just jump into my defender to make a jump shoot. So I see four hands up and both men lost balance then the ball goes in (honestly, I have never seen CPU missed this kind of shoot before).

4. When the CPU try a fast break, if my men are back and I slow down CPU's PG, the CPU's SG or SF will stay under the hoop then the PG will make a half court pass to him and he will dunk immediately.

Can anybody tell me how to stop these?

same problems, no really good answer yet. ( nobody answered so i guess it's been answered yet....)

for me, the most efficient way to defend in the paint is to draw an offensive foul by standing still as soon as possible. (even before the pass lands into cpu post-player's hands... which needs to be quick with player switching then ***button (i dont remember the name))

You are right. It seem the best way is to control the big man to battle for the position by myself. The computer can never get a good position for me.

er, how do u "battle" for the position by the way ?.. using right analog stick ?? cos it doesn't want to go into "battling mode" very time when i try.......

the move your talking about where the computer immediately just turns and lays it up is because he gets in position so that when he recieves the ball his defender is behind him.. this can be prevented by controlling the player being posted and moving into a diferent position..

to prevent the alley oop u can either be a big man and just block the alley as soon as it touches the hand of the reciever, or take the charge, it occasionally works.. also if the pass is from far enough u can steal it.

the others i have not personally witnessed

If you want to stop the ally oop, get in front of the reciever and push your steal button. If you don't intercept the pass, you'll at least deflect it. You gotta be quick though.

I know this doesn't really answer your question, but before I uninstalled (and I won't reinstall until AP's are over) I played a lot of the 2-3 zone to prevent an entry pass into the post. Once the pass did get through though, the man is usually doubled quick enough to minimize these situations. They still happened, but not as often.

What I usually do is: when I am behind the CPU's big man, I hold the turbo button and then push take charge, sometimes I can push him away from the hoop.

i hate the halfcourt passes into the guy under the hoop. I stop these by calling an intentional foul or dbl teaming the ball handler

ok i see, though what i'd like to do is .. er.. u know, when the defender tries to get his arm between the cpu post player and the ball carrier (PG in general). or to PUSH the cpu post out of the paint..
the cpu does it sometimes automatically, but i wonder if i could perform it by myself.. ..... seems to me the only way to prevent pau gasol to get the ball and immediately score right on my face 90% of the time for example.....

I don't think we can do that manually, otherwise, life will be much easier, isn't it?

perhaps.. :?:
however, they could make it tough to master, so it would be rewarding after a while.
instead, i'm leaving the CPU defending the post by itself as it does it better than if i tried by myself.................... a pity for the gameplay..

perhaps it will be possible to control even more features like this one in live 2005. . . . . .
