Choppiness

This is my first time posting so I will try to make it good.
When I play a game of NBA Live on my computer, randomly throughout the game, the graphics will get very noticeably choppy. These "episodes" range from about 30 seconds to a couple minutes and end just as randomly as they begin. Has anyone had a problem like this or does anyone know of a fix? BTW, when I play other games like Max Payne 2 this choppiness does not happens.

P.S. I think I have realized that it happens more frequently after I pause the game to make a substution. That almost seems to trigger it.
