Online abuse?

Postby oboeguy on Wed Dec 31, 2003 6:00 pm

I find that a lot of high-ranked players use game "features" to the level of abuse. The ones who do that AND are good, kick my tail, but those who simply abuse... well, it's a closer game.

An example is stealing the inbounds pass. I use the baseline high camera so I can't see the damned passer or the baseline. Maybe I simply suck at this, but I lose a lot of balls this way.

The other big example is the shot fake. OMG do people over-use it. I'm not necessarily saying they shouldn't (unlike, perhaps, the above), but I'm saying I fall victim to it all the time.

I'm not whining here, so please don't flame. :)

I agree.

I think in moderation these are good tactics, but some use it to death, especially the pump fakes. I like to play people who try to play the game with some level of realism.

1) Sideline cam is a good cam. Just zoom out some. When the other people shot-fake just strip it. The CPU does it to me all the time.

I'm happy with my camera choice, in general, but I'll see if I like it zoomed out some more. Thanks also for the tip to strip, I'll give it a try as well.

As for Carmo, <sigh>.

My resolution, if they do it I do it. If you play someone who pro-hops on every possesion, do the same to him. I played like that last year, last year it was impossible to stop fast breaks from the cpu, so I fast-breaked against them.

I refuse to stoop to the level of the abusers. It's very satisfying to play good ball and beat them that way.

I have trouble beating the pro-hop too. Usually a zone D helps prevent opportunities for over-pro-hopping, at least for me. Also, the take charge button is your friend. I admit that I use the pro-hop somtimes, of course, as it's part of the game, but I just as much pull-up for a J or dish to the open man.

I agree with you guys on this one ... so many of the high rated players live to steal the inbounds pass or pump fake numerous times. I'm rated pretty high myself at 1850 or so ... but most of them just take the fun away. Only other problem I have is that it is hard to find someone who wants to play at superstar level. This aint really abuse, but even guys better than me wont play on anything besides all-star.
