How does Live 2004 Run on Your Systems?

Fri Nov 14, 2003 5:06 am

Hey guys.
I don't have the game yet for pc yet, but just a question for all you ppl that do. How well does it run? I've been reading that some of you guys are playing it alright..so if possible could u guys just answer a few questions?:

1. Does it run better than Live 2003 on your computer @ max details?
2. Can somebody post the # of frames per second on avg that you get? (Try using fraps or something if possible and tell what fps you get when you're on offence behind the 3point arc and the defense is set; not when you're running all over the place).
3. What system you have (cpu, graphics card, memory, motherboard)

Thx!

I don't use Fraps but I will say that I have everything maxed out @1280x1024 and it is silky smooth. Live 2003 ran fine for me too, so I can comment there.

System specs:

2.0a ghz P4 CPU
1 gig 2700 DDR Ram
Radeon 9700 Pro
Audigy Sound Card

Fri Nov 14, 2003 5:26 am

Damn no wonder, you got a Radeon 9700pro.

Fri Nov 14, 2003 8:48 am

Runs better than 2003 on mine.

My System:

1.5 GHz AMD Athlon
512 MB
Radeon 8600 Card.

Haven't experienced the occasional slow downs and choppy play so far.

Fri Nov 14, 2003 9:39 am

I used fraps i i get an average of 62 fps. the maxium i seen my screen go to is about 79 within the game and the lowest i seen it is 55.

I do have all my settings max out including a 1600 by 1200 resolution
with all the details on ( i have trilinear on for my filter)

My specs are AMD athlon 3000+ Barton
1 GHZ of RAM
9800 Radeon Pro
21 inch Monitor

I'll say the game is smooth, though i notice it looks even smoother when i turn the reflections off.

Anyone have a geforce ti 4200 ???
Is this very good for thats game (live 04) ????

In the details settings screen, does it say 1600x1200x32?

Hmm...I guess that's pretty good then. You got a top of the line system there though
I was hoping the maximum would hit 100fps on yours though, but seeing as your low is 55fps that's pretty damn good. How did 2003 run on yours before?
Hopefully with a Radeon 9500pro and an Athlon xp 1800+, i could get something similar to you at 1024x768.
I doubt it, but we'll see in a week :)

What are your settings though?

Fri Nov 14, 2003 2:54 pm

i say this year is better than 2003 i run my game on maximum setting and 1024x768x32 and my game is still smooth

amd athlonxp 2400+
inno3d geforce4 TI4200 AGP 8x
768MB ddr pc266
80 gig barracuda

Fri Nov 14, 2003 2:58 pm

This year's version is less taxable on your system.

My specs:
XP2500 OC'ed 3200+
512MB DDR400
9500pro

I get about 60fps with everything max.

But I'd suggest adjusting the light to low, the game will look a lot better that way.

Thanks to Walle0, I play 2004 at 1600x1200x32.

r_hardwaresettings.nVideoMode 7
r_hardwaresettings.nScreenWidth 1600
r_hardwaresettings.nScreenHeight 1200
r_hardwaresettings.nScreenBPP 32
r_hardwaresettings.bGammaSupport 1
r_hardwaresettings.fGammaValue 0.5000
r_hardwaresettings.nTextureFilterType 4
r_hardwaresettings.bVSync 1
r_hardwaresettings.bTripleBuffer 1

now my Geforce Ti 4600 settings
I have AA set on 4S and Ansiotropic setting at 2X. BTW--What does Ansiotropic do?

This is the best looking basketball game I've ever seen. At this resolution, the textures on the jerseys look great--the court and court lines are crisp. There is no slowdown whatsoever. I love it. When i first tested the game at 1600, it was a little choppy--so I messed with the graphic settings on my card and voila. I play on a 21 inch monitor as well.

My specs
amd 1800xp
geforce ti 4600 w/the newest drivers 52.16 (i think)
512 ddr
windows xp home
pc made by micron pc

it definatly runs better live 2003, smooth as hell almost no stutter in the graphics, i dont use max everything but close to it

my specs
p4 2.4 ghz
256 mb ram
geforce 4 ti 4200 128 mb

Fri Nov 14, 2003 4:08 pm

well with my system right now.. filled with anime.. mite not be as fast as before
i'm runnin bout same as 03
i got a 32mb geforce 2 gts, 1.4ghz tbird, 256mb ddr sdram
i run 1024x768.. a little below normal settings

the graphices dont' seem as good as 03..

Fri Nov 14, 2003 4:11 pm

So far I am extremely impressed with what has worked well in NBA Live 2004. The new array of animations are nice and it looks polished and its shiny and new. :) Once I began using it with the latest Cat's 3.9, it didnt look good until I found a better driver set. I've only had one game with them so far NJ Vs Toronto and a bit of a practice session. As I have mentioned before, there are graphical corruption issues with my system and NBA Live. :( I hope they are resolved in the new set of drivers. Im about to go insane. Hopefully my cure is a fix for it from ATI's driver team. Im considering contacting them. I need this to be fixed soon.

nice nice. Btw, anisotropic filtering is just to improve texture quality at certain angles and distances. Basically, as you move away from your point of reference, lower quality mip-maps (basically textures) will be applied.
By turning on anisotropic filtering, you are forcing your card to keep rendering higher quality mipmaps regardless of the distance from where you're looking at. The higher you turn it on (ie. 2X, 4X, 8X, 16X) the more detailed the rendering is even if it's at a distance. Naturally, this produces a performance hit in your game. So where i'm thinking it SHOULD be seen in Live 2004 is if you look at the floor textures. The floor closest to you should have all the detail, but as you keep looking further it should start to blur much quicker if anisotropic filtering is not turned on since it's not using the higher quality mip-maps at the further floor textures.
In all honesty however, every other game i've played there's a difference with anisotropic filtering on and off, but in Live 2003, i noticed no differences at all. Maybe it's like that again this year?

What's wrong with the catalyst 3.9 drivers? Is the image quality worse with them than Omega/dna drivers?

Fri Nov 14, 2003 5:15 pm

i dunno what i'm doing wrong but my frap scores are

2003-11-13 21:56:14 - nba2004
Frames: 4031 - Time: 113516ms - Avg: 35.510 - Min: 26 - Max: 78

I'm running a 9800pro (on a intel p4 3.36ghz comp) at 4xAA/8xAF.

Turning vsync on only lowers my framerates. It's pretty frustrating. Using cat3.7 drivers. Turning most of the options to low or off gets me to around 40-50 fps if i disable AA/AF as well.

any thoughts?

Hi

The game work perfectly execpt in the player's presentation (before the game) where the game lag.

My config : athlon xp 2400+
asuztek a7n8x deluxe
geforece 4 ti 4200 128 Mo
720 Mo ram

I don't see yet the frame rate but i will do this afternoon.

Fri Nov 14, 2003 6:28 pm

how can u adjust to 1600 resoulution in game the max it saiz for me is 1280x1024

Fri Nov 14, 2003 6:34 pm

what file do u adjust to make 1600?

Fri Nov 14, 2003 6:51 pm

I'm running 1024*768, player detail medium, enviroment medium, all others low, except reflections which is off.

All that with an NVIDIA Riva TNT :D

Fri Nov 14, 2003 7:10 pm

I prefer using the official ATI drivers. Used drivers from other people, I optimise the drivers by other means. The optimizations should not cause the corruption.

Nobody else posted any fraps logs, so we don't have anything to compare to. Of course turning on v-sync will lower your framerates reported by fraps simply because when v-sync is on, by default in windows xp your refresh rates in full screen 3d apps will be 60hz. Since the MAX framerate you can now achieve is 60fps, your avg framerate will also be affected as well since the upper-limit is lower than with v-sync off.

As for your low framerates with everything off including AA and AF, I have no idea. We need more people posting some fraps logs so we could compare what's normal and what's not. Maybe you're not doing ne thing wrong at all. Maybe your log for fraps is too short to get an accurate representation of your avg framerate.

It might be a Riva TNT2 though, not sure. I'm probably getting a whole new comp for Christmas! *giggles like a school girl*

I got the game from the Future Shop in West Van (Park Royal to be exact.) I'm assuming it will be at other Future Shops.
