Confirmation: North American PC release date, PC Demo

Fri Oct 31, 2003 3:27 pm

Confirmation time.

A PC-CD version of NBA Live 2004 will be released. It will hit North American stores November 11th, 2003.

There will not be a demo.

This is information I've received first hand from a member of the production team, so I'm pretty certain it's genuine.

good look andrew

Fri Oct 31, 2003 4:02 pm

Did anyone else get freaked by andrew opening page announcement? I certainly did... I just noticed the bold text not going to etc. And I already thought they had canned the whole PC game...

Luckily I can read  And it was only about the demo. And 11/11, man that's a long wait. It's going to be near december when it hits the store here. And that just plain sucks.

Sad as hell, but hey, we're atleast getting it... Eventually.

I wonder how long it will take to get to us aussies then?

Atlast, some confirmations :)

Not getting a demo sux.... every other game has just about.

If the console versions are available November 3rd (as expected), then it will be 19 days after the North American release. If there's similar wait for the PC version, it should be available in Australia December 1st.

Thank you, that's all I wanted to hear! Now, I need to get sick on the 12th.

man no demo? :( kinda sux...i wanna test the game to see if i'm gonna buy this thing or not...if the gameplay is so good that i can just forget about the Dynasty screw up i might buy it...still kinda sux (n)

Fri Oct 31, 2003 4:48 pm

Having no demo probably means their lack of confidence in the game. By having no demo, we will already have bought the game before we notice any bugs.

Nevertheless, I am keeping my hopes high that lots of known bugs are fixed for the PC version

Every year the NBA Live series comes up we all have our gripes about it. We keep on complaining about this and that, but you know what we would always have something to complain no matter how they create the game. Regardless of all the complaints and "no demo" I will still purchase NBA Live 2004, because to me...the NBA Live Series of EA is still tops comparing it with other basketball pc games. I'm just glad that they will release one this year :D

Fri Oct 31, 2003 7:02 pm

finnally we get a confirmend date..nov.. 11 2 weeks but atleast it confirmed now .and oh welll on the demo.........

Fri Oct 31, 2003 7:10 pm

that's bad to say and against the forum rules, but i'll certainly get the game cracked to see if the gameplay is satisfying. if yes, i'll buy the game, else, i'll certainly throw away the cracked version and forget Live 2004.

I only want to make MY opinion on this game before spending about 50 or 60 $. A demo would have been excellent for this, but EA may have not understand the real rules of the video market.

I feel quite disgusted to see there won't be any demo. What do they have to hide ? Is it so hard to make a demo ? Are they really too confident in their products (they may be right, but I'm personnally not confident)

Fri Oct 31, 2003 7:43 pm

Making a demo is always extra work... Obviously they are busy enough without the demo.

I don't know what a 5 minute gameplay demo will tell you??? Everyone has basically agreed that the gameplay is good... And the gameplay sliders can really make it even better.

Gameplay is good... It's all the else that worries me.

I am getting the game as soon as it's on the shelves here in Finland.

Fri Oct 31, 2003 9:24 pm

the game will be ok. for one it more likely better than 2003 which i still lkie play remember its just a game and we have something that no else has and that being able to patch the game.

Damn, I'll be in Melbourne and won't have my computer then. I guess my sister won't mind me hijacking her computer while I'm over there. :D

Does anyone know about what it will cost in Australia? On dStore.com.au it is $59.95, so I can get it for $49.95 (with a $10 voucher) + postage & handling (whatever that costs). It also says "This item is expected to be released on 11th Nov 2003".

Sat Nov 01, 2003 1:16 am

But do you guys seriously believe they will fix something for the pc version? I dont want to be pessimistic but i fear the worst, if it would only be the FA signing this would be the greatest bbal game for pc ever

Sat Nov 01, 2003 1:20 am

I am just happy it's comming out ad we have a date now. Thankyou Andrew for your dedication to this community. I appreciate you getting this info. It's not like EA was going to give it to us.

Sat Nov 01, 2003 1:57 am

Yeah Andrew, thanks for the info.

I must say, I'm a tad disappointed about the lack of demo. Means I'll have to wait extra long (unless i want to shell out the full money for it!)

About it being extra work, I mean, they already have the game in place, all they'd have to do is:

1) Delete all modes except exhibition 5 minute quarters.
2) Delete all teams except for 2.
3) Delete all graphics, sounds etc except for these 2 teams.
4) Delete all EATrax except for one or 2.
5) Bundle it into a package and release it.

It's making the game that takes long, not taking parts out. I have never seen the gamecode so I can't say how hard this would be, but pay me and give me a day or two and I could probably have a demo out. I wish EA would get with it, seriously.

Sat Nov 01, 2003 1:59 am

Bleh..
Demos ARE important for a game simply so ppl can tell before spending their $40-50 whether or not the game runs on their system and whether it runs WELL on their system.

Honestly I wonder what's with the Nba Live team at EAsports. If NHL and Madden can have a demo why can't Live? Even if they put it out slightly after the real release date it's better than nothing.

Sat Nov 01, 2003 2:02 am

Furthermore, demos create more consumers. I mean, I never would have even been interested in the game HALO, but for the hell of it I downloaded the demo. Now im thinking about buying it! So releasing a demo would create a larger community and more proceeds for EA. I don't see why they wouldn't want to make one.

Sat Nov 01, 2003 2:23 am

IMHO, the Live team within EAsports just doesn't know how to take advantage of the PC market.

They are following the rules of the console market: ie. no demos (or very few). Why are they limiting themselves this way? I don't think it's time constraints. After december what the hell do they release anyways?

They also have the ability to patch games for the PC but they don't. I think that's just stupid on their part. EVERY game gets patch nowadays. True, they may patch Live 2004 to fix certain things wrong with the game when it's released. But don't get your hopes up. Their lack of a demo is already showing their commitment to the PC market.

Sat Nov 01, 2003 3:08 am

the good news is there will be pc version

but to add about that demo it seems EA once again doesnt care about PC owners and when the game comes out it will probably have bugs and we all know from last year what EA did with 2003 a dumb active x update...so no demo means that after PC version comes out i can bet that there wont be a patch eathier...EA should focus on PC owners more.

oops someone already posted about patch

Sat Nov 01, 2003 4:28 am

Well, I'm glad the game is coming on PC, but as consumers, we shouldn't even be worried whether or not it will or will not be on PC. Madden, NHL, FIFA, they always come on PC and they always come out with a demo and still make console versions. Obviously, they got a more dedicated well-respected team of hard workers that gets the job done.

NBA Live, not since Live 2000 had done anything like the other teams for the consumers. Finally, this year, they were going to get the job done despite a couple major bugs and lack of communication with PC owners, but now they're not going to make a demo. I absolutely refuse to say that they're too busy to make a demo considering they could've came out with a patch for the PC the last several years and they never made one. They could've hired more people, they could've done all of these things! I'm still going to get NBA Live 2004, but I'm seething at the Live team for doing an awful job at gaining the consumer's respect. But hey, they don't care as long as they get the money.

I'll eat my words if they actually do fix major bugs from the console versions, but given the team's history and the board's attitude toward the probability of them fixing bugs in the same year is LOW. I applaud the community for still sticking around just because they love the game no matter how bad the product the Live team gives us. Too bad the Live team can't make us enjoy it a little better.

I have to admit, I feel as though the Live team is the worst team at Ea Sports. When Madden was lacking a feature(ie Dirty Uinforms, some logic errors in the Franchise) they released a patch. Will the Live team do this? I doubt it , although I hope they prove me wrong. I feel they should at least give us some commitment. If you aren't going to release a demo, inform us that a patch WILL be worked on if problems in Franchise or gameplay logic arise. Give us some sort of sign that u give a damn about the people who keep your product so popular... If it wasn't for us PC gamers, Live would be getting crushed by ESPN, because their Franchise is deeper, graphics are a little better... So show some respect to the people who put that extra money in your pocket...

You make it sound like they can do that in minutes.
