Signing FA's in 2004

Mon Sep 15, 2003 4:33 pm

Remember how after a year in your franchise you could sign up superstars for the minimum? that was annoying. I felt guilty if i signed them, and silly if i didnt. They should demand their worth if they are great players. Anyone know if this is being addressed in 2004?

Sorry if this has been discussed!

I also hope injuries are in the game for those of us who play all our games. The injuries sometimes should span multiple games, weeks, months, even seasons! Maybe even the odd motorcycle accident :)

GO BULLS.

yeah, i never signed them, instead i had to spend some time editing my player.dbf file to make the rosters look reasonable. anyway it should all have been addressed in the revamped franchise mode aka THE DYNASTY MODE™. so hopefully there will be no problems. :D

yeah we've been discussing it for quite some time (ever since live2003 was released)

I think we're all counting on issues such as these to be addressed in Dynasty Mode.

one thing i want to know;
did anyone saw a player get hurts during a match??

I thought i'd never seen this on live 2003 ~
as i remember the series before, i could saw a player injured by a flagrant foul (i couldn't see other ways to get hurt)~

does it exists on 2003, or flagrant foul is no longer a rule of NBA ?

am i asking a silly question?

The Flagrant Foul is still in the NBA.

Mon Sep 15, 2003 8:57 pm

I've been able to injure an opponent in Live 2003. A foul need not result in injury to be classified as a flagrant foul, but since the first NBA Live injuries only occur on flagrant fouls. A couple of the previews suggest that won't be the case in Live 2004.

thanks :P

i am not that familiar of the rules ~ :)

my biggest concern with free agency is that they let the worst team sign first and move up from there. madden does it the best as you all compete at the same time to sign draft picks. i really wish nba live would do this also. maybe make it where 4-5 teams offer 1 player the max and he gets to pick who he wants to go with.

Yeah it's still a rule in the NBA as MJforever said (btw long time since you posted man).

The only way I could get someone injured was if I kept intentionally fouling him, I think the computer gets fed up after shooting tons of freethrows and says frukc (spelling?? :P  ) it, lets get injured :P .

they should make it like mvp baseball 2003
i'm really satisfy with franchise mode in mvp baseball 2003
it has realistic FA signing and more ...... why can't they make it like
other game? especially nba live .... i haven't been satisfy w/ these
issues yet in nba live games.

I heard that players can get injured just by going up and trying to dunk on someone!
sounds sweet.
i also hope there off the court injuries, like for the old guys sore knees/ankles etc. and players getting the flu
also if a player gets a serious injury, he still sits out some games after the injury.

this is theo nly off court type of thing it needs concerning player problems etc.
nothing like marijuana possesion or assualt etc.

I don't know about MVP Baseball, but Madden in my opinion has the best FA signing among EA games (well, I guess the best franchise for that matter). They give you 30 days. The 30 day signing period goes by real time and in that period you must use your time and money efficiently to make offers to the players you want (note, "make offers" not sign yet). Remember during this 30 day period you're not the only one making offers to players. Other teams will be in real-time making offers to their own prospects, including players you've already made offers to. So if there's a player more than two teams want, it's going to become a bidding match (it won't be like an auction where the price keeps going up because, of course, all teams have salary limits). So when you're trying to sign a high-demand player, it's important you make a substantial offer the first time in order to make it harder for other teams to outbid you. All the while, you can check your team's roster and depth charts to see which position you need to strengthen, etc. The players you've made offers to will either sign with you after a while or sign with another team that made a better offer. Also, the offer-making/signing itself is much more involved than Live, having a screen by itself showing the player's demands/comments, his ratings, and details of his possible salary over the number of years of the contract, etc. All in all, as I've said many times before, Madden has a great franchise mode compared to Live. Hopefully, that will all change with their new Dynasty mode. :)

I hope against hopes that Live's free agent signing is nothing like MVP's. MVP had perhaps the worst franchise mode in history. I'm not knocking them, they completely re-worked the game from the ground up and I'm sure franchise was one of the last things they looked at.... I just hope that Live's is everything MVP's wasn't.

What exactly did you like abou MVP's franchise?

I forget what game it is, but if a player is not seriously injured he can still play but his ratings are lowered. I would love that idea in nba live. Like if Kobe gets a mild ankle sprain, he can still play but he'll be a little slower, he won't score that much and maybe more prone to getting injured during the game if you play him. That scenerio can work for common nba injuries like the flu, groin pull,or something in that nature. Man, that'd be off the hook.Imagine the playoffs and the game before Shaq injures his ankle and cannot finish tha game, but you need him for game 2. Do you play him or rest him? That's what I'm talking about.

I like that idea. (Y) Depending on the severity and nature of the injury, a player could be out for anything from a few minutes to a few games. Returning in the current game would see the player slowed by the injury, and running the risk of further injury.

I like that. I also hope there are injuries on plays that weren't called fouls.

I think that happens in madden but he can only play through a mild injury, not a broken arm. And their ratings are lowered.

could possibly be--but still a cool concept.

Tue Sep 23, 2003 11:50 am

Infact it is. I have madden.

Its a good concept though. And what if player ratings got higher midgame when they hit everything and are on fire?
