I've seen some of the faces and I'm not feelin them too much. Tim Duncan doesn't look anything like the real person and McGrady and James look overexaggerated.
Maybe it's just a few faces that look totally off but I don't know.

Months from the release date?!
Try like a month and a half. Maybe less

Definitely not less. 2 months, at least. Everything we've seen so far is probably a month old as well, so they've had, and have, plenty of time to polish everything up.

Details such as cyberfaces and jersey textures can be polished up at the last minute. However, gameplay flaws and bugs need to be ironed out before it's too late.

Graphical detail can be worked out late in the process and they are probably going to work on them these last couple of months to get them right... And we always have patchers. They are (hopefully) testing the game now and ironing out all the bigger flaws and this is time when more people can concentrate on the looks side of the game. And the graphics don't have to be on the money when they test how the product work.
This is the most important part of the project. This is the time when you try to make the game work as it should work and not as it works at the moment. This makes or brakes the game... And it's a damn shame that some companies don't test their products as well as they should and thus the game has some critical flaw and thus it is too stupid to play. Like Live 2001 where the players always simulated the same scores because of a flaw which could have been seen easily with Shaq scoring 35 a game with overall of 70. But I guess they didn't test it thoroughly...
