Team styles?

Sat Jun 14, 2003 9:29 pm

Does live'04 have a feature like this were every team has a different style on offense?

Sat Jun 14, 2003 9:35 pm

I don't remember seeing it mentioned specifically in any of the previews. Hopefully individual team styles will be in Live 2004 though.

yea they mentioned it in a preview i read. thats what they mean when they say one touch play calling...its that at the touch of a button the point guard will call the signature offensive scheme for that particular team. eg. derek fisher would call to set up the triangle offense for the lakers etc. but with EA u never know what your really goin to get anyway.

My memory is really shot these days. :? Which preview was that in?

If i can remember I think it was the IGN prewiew.

Thanks Shadow. :)

Also new to the series is one-button play calling that allows you to dribble the ball up court with your point guard, scout the defense, then call a play like the triangle or pick and roll to exploit any mismatches on the floor.

I think that refers more to the D-Pad Playcalling feature, present in NBA Live 2003. However:

Speaking of authentic play, the computer AI will also play each team as they're meant to be played, with the Mavericks running the floor looking for every opportunity to fast break, the Lakers methodically bringing the ball up court and dumping the rock inside to Shaq, and the Nuggets playing more like little nuggets that resemble anything but gold.

So individual team styles are supposed to be more noticeable in NBA Live 2004. Good news. :)

I certainly hope so. Is it possible to create your own plays?

Sun Jun 15, 2003 11:14 pm

Even though it's failed me of late, I'm sure that I haven't seen a play editor mentioned in any of the previews. Perhaps in NBA Live 2005. :)

And would the style of play really affect the game? Cuz if u look at the finals for example, that de spurs grab to zone defense, which lil'old Popp doesnt like but it seems to be effective agains jersy so, why dont put that in live 2004?

Individual team styles would definitely affect the game. You would have to employ different strategies depending on which team you are facing. It would certainly make the game a little more realistic, as well as challenging.

I'd like to see teams with different offenses and styles as well. It would be nice to see LA run their offense through Shaq and Kobe instead of Derek Fisher dribbling the ball down the court and immediately jacking up 3s all the time and leading his team in FGs.

Similarly, with the inclusion of championship teams, it would be more realistic to see Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan handling the ball more often than Ron Harper. Teams with versatile players don't always run their offense through the point guard; it would be good to see that happen in NBA Live, too.

E X A C T L Y. i hate to play against say orlando and t-mac is touching the ball only when shooting. it would add much more realism if they would let good non-pg´s that have good ballhandling and awareness (but still maybe not too much for pf´s and c´s) run good chunks of the teams´s offense. it should also work for generated rookies with good relevant skills.

It would also cut down the number of times point guards such as Derek Fisher and Tony Delk rack up 15 assists.

I hope they make a quota for points of a certain player. I hate it when bryon russell scores on me 30 pts with hands in his face.

Maybe by editing PLAYS.DBF file?..

not to mention stoudAmire, he kills me every time with a ton of assists and a rain of threes, but with j-kidd, i locked him down

The team styles is great, i just wonder how itll work for franchise. As time goes by shaq wont be on the lakers, so they cant pound the ball in 2 samaki walker, does the teams style change, which leads me 2 coaching, will there be coaches with diffrent styles, some run the triangle offense, flex, and etc. Its real interesting and adds alot 2 the game, I could run the offense through the post lets say im the lakers now, but then lets say shaq retires doesnt resign, i could run he offesnse through kobe and acquire a small foward and play like the old bulls?

i just hope the style isnt done half ass, but that itreally works, where a player must run an offesnse that would fit best for the team. a young team wants 2 run, and older guys slow it down, which should lead to other factors like fatigue. I just want the franshise 2 be solid.

Exactly

That's what I say too, having team styles in Live would have to be made fully functionable. Like rudogg said. People post stuff like, they want to play like the Nets play and stuff like that, but when Kidd and coach Scott are gone, the team wont play like they play now. So, the game would have to come with different coaches, and player's and coache's styles in the ratings to do this. And it would have to have creating coaches and signing ans firing coches.

this feature would be nice: CP creating coaches like players every year. And having a "Coaches Free-Agent" list, like the real NBA. But EA won't make that I guess. EA is always a step behind. They say Live 2004 will be the best game to date, B frigin S, Live will never be the best basketball game. Even 2005 wont, there will be better ones out there, or they still wont have all the features that we fans want in it by 2005 or 06. I bet u a million bucks. There will always be something missing.
I'm out

I kinda disagree. I think the play styles should be linked to the coach, or maybe even the organization in some cases. Hell the Bulls still run triangle offense, I just looks like some $H@t without Mike and Scottie.
