defending the 3 point shot

Wed Jan 21, 2004 7:26 pm

i play online a lot and i have no problem making baskets or defending the post however i always have problems defending the 3 point shot.. so yeah, how do you defend it? i was the wolves yesterday playing the kings and peja torched me from behind the arc.. i had to tweak my line up so madsen would play PF (late game block on webber gave me the victory) and KG would play SF.. needless to say peja still went apeshit .. i think he hit seven 3's.. help anyone? :?

When you raise your arms, make sure you're close enough to the offensive player so that you're right in his face. You can't afford to give good shooters room. Jumping to block/contest the shot usually works, but be wary of jumping into the shooter and committing a foul.

As someone who makes a living beyond the arc while playing online... let me tell you how to beat my jumpshot game (especially the three):

- Trap the pick and roll. I suck at passing to the roller, so I'm sunk if you trap.

- Don't use zone defense. If you do, the threes will begin to rain down upon you. I love it when guys zone, because if I miss the first, I have a better shot at the offensive board for a quick second look.

- Play up on me. Chances are that if I shoot well I suck at going to the hole, so get in my face

- Avoid double-teams. If I had a nickel for every open J off of a double...

- Make my shooter work on the defensive end. He'll be tired earlier thus less of a threat during the game (fewer minutes / fewer strong minutes == worse shooting).

online is so different to regular play, obviously coz of the human aspect involved, but in superstar in regular, i can get away with double-teaming pick and rolls everytime. the ball movement is more often that not, slow at best and u use ur PG or whoever uve left to sprint back to ur man. obviously this wouldnt work in real life, but in the game i very rarely get burned for it by an open j or 3, but it happens on occasion
