PCI Videocards

Postby Full Surface on Sat Oct 04, 2003 12:08 pm

I found out that I only have a PCI slot in my PC to use for cards. Now I have to find a PCI videocard that cost less than $100 but will run pretty decent with Live 2004 (and other types of 3D games). It doesn't have to be powerful but I just want a good the best one that will give a good performance overall, and it should show smooth figures with 3D games.

Radeon 7500 Video Card, PCI, 64MB DDR

Verto TNT2-M64 Video Card, PCI, 32MB SDRAM

I'd also like some feedback (from people who know a lot about these types of things). Thanks.

The last one would probably be the best choice...but neither of them are really great...

Your computer must be pretty old then....

Your Motherboard only has a PCI slot???... I am guessing your CPU is below 1Ghz, am I correct???
If I have to choose, I will go for the ATI 9200 SE or the GeforceFX 5200 since they are the newest and should be the fatest...
But I am guessing that they are probably more expensive ($80~$100) and the other ones are cheaper ($40~$70)
Depending on your budget, I will go for ATI 9200SE if you want a faster card and an Asylum GeForce4 MX440-SE if you are willing to play games in lower setting....
Hope this helps!

None of these will show smooth framerates in 3d games in your system but here goes:

The Verto TNT2 is garbage. That chip is VERY old, before the first Geforce card ever came out.

The Radeon 7500 is also garbage now and is slower than the rest of the remaining options.

The GeforceFX 5200 IS the fastest of the bunch, but it will not be under $100 (at least it's slightly over $100 here in Canada). If you can, get this one if you want raw speed.

Are you sure the Radeon 9200SE comes in PCI? Well if you are, I'd say that one is the best buy if you can't get the FX. Failing that, the Geforce4mx440SE will do.

Not having an AGP slot if you had onboard video was very common up until a year or two ago. Now days just about every board with On-board video also has an AGP slot so you can upgrade. Not that this helps you very much. :(
