Computer Name Recognation - For created players/teams

Postby crapman on Mon Jul 28, 2003 12:18 pm

What would be awesome is if they used one of those computer voices (I've heard some that sound half-way decent and not all bad) for Created Players and Teams (assuming they'd put back in Create A Team feature).

That'd just be really awesome. Sure the announcer would turn into a semi-robot sounding person for a split second, but who cares? It's better than nothing.

Speaking of this... in 2003, is there anyway to add in or edit the current play by play?

Not all text-to-speech engines sound terrible, although they'd probably stumble over non-Anglo Saxon names. You could probably overcome this by entering the name into a field where you could spell it phoenetically.

Using the idea of a long list of names, the game should recognise first names as well. If you created a player called John Williams, both names are in the game so both could be recognised by Marv and Mike as well as the PA announcer.

I think a couple of people have been playing around with it since the release of the PBP editor for the NHL series. I don't think anyone's been able to get it to work properly yet.

YES! A TTS engine will be great.

TTS is so popular now(even e-dict on PDA can have one with average quality)...is it really so difficult to be imprement in the game? :?:

I think this should be the LAST thing they have to worry about and work on, taking resources and time away from gameplay just to implement a stupid test-to-speech engine would be the stupidest thing they can do.

True, it should not come at the expense of gameplay. But it doesn't hurt to talk about possible enhancements to create-a-player.

If NCAA 2K3 Basketball could pull it off saying the names why can't Live? NCAA Football 2003 & 2004 did it, Madden probably did also. It's Lives turn.

Live does feature name recognition, but it could be greatly improved.
