fps falling down with player textures at maximum

Postby Mintzberg on Fri Nov 21, 2003 8:25 pm

I find it impossible to play at resolutions under 800x600, so if I play at 1024, when I set texture players to maximum, fps fall down to under 30. Of course it´s a problem with my video card (GeForce 2, but I can´t buy new one until Chrismas).

Anyway, do you know any tips/configuration to get my framerate better? Thanks.

Ur Really pushing it with GeForce2, 4 starters no hardware DX9 support.
If u want 2 play at higher Res just experiment with different options, i would turn OFF reflections and benchplayers, LOW lighting & shadows. HIGH player detail and MED textures. Try setting ur Res to 16Bit and Update ur drivers.
The Geforce 2 was great in its day but time has caught up with it, i still have 1 in a draw somewhere! U could also try and overclock it and squeeze out a bit more performance. :D

I´m in a Pentium Iv 1,8 with 512 RAM, so that´s why I still can play with that terrible video card.

That settings are more or less the ones I´m using now, at 1024 resulution (16 bit clour); maximum player textures seem to need a lot of resources to work at a decent framerate, but if you set it high graphics are not that good. Well, I soppose I´ll have to wait for my brand new ATI 9600 :wink:

I used 2 have Geforce 4MX in my p42.8 1gb3200, which is twice the GF2 and that couldnt even run live 03 at high res. Games does not run in software mode any more so u must be getting really shitty fps. Why waste ur money on a 9600 when what u really want is the new 9900 :wink:

Whicj framerate do u recommend for this game? I mean, the ideal fps rate. I´m getting constant 30 fps, is that OK?

I like constant 60fps for this game and I think that is ideal.
Xbox version runs around there.

I can tell you now if you get a Radeon 9600pro you will NOT be able to play the game at 60fps with max details. You will have to tweak the settings still.
I have a similar setup to you and when I run at max settings @ 1024x768 or even 1280x1024 it hovers around the 35fps mark.

eh..just overclock a lil..

but the major tweaking was within the game, finding a good balance btwn image quality and frame rate.
The way I have it is good enough for me :)

Resolutions under 1024 does´t seem to improve fps a lot...I think it´s textures what really fucks your framerate. And reflexions, of course, which I have turned off (otherwise would be impossible to play).

Really an ATI 9600 won´t be enaugh? So you recommend me to buy a 9800? (9700 out of stock here, I think).

Yeah, reflections really screws up the framerate, and is totally not worth the performance hit even on medium. I leave mine on low.

It would depend what kinda framerates you want. I have a very similar system to yours with the 9500pro (which is within 5% faster/slower than the 9600pro in most games) and I can't play the game at max details at framerates higher than 35fps. It's about a constant 35fps too. If i tweak it a bit, I can get it at constant 60fps. That's at 1024x768 (or 1280x1024 - makes no diff in this game on my system) with player textures to low, shadows to medium, reflections to low, and bench players to low while everything else stays at max. Unless you want to do the same thing as me, then I'd suggest you get a graphics card in the Radeon 9800-range.

Yeah..EA's game always needs very good hardware to run. I got my comp last year and using ATI pro9000, and I can only turn the detail to the "Preset High". I wish I can play the game with all maxmum bad. > <

Ok, I have just bought an ATI 9800 PRO. And, bad news, I cant still play with max details.

My computer is :

Code: Select all
Windows XP v5.1 build 2600
CPUName= Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 1.80GHz
RAM=512
[Disk Free Space]
C: (FAT32), UNICODE=13.57GB
D: (FAT32), UNICODE=659MB

Video Card Name=RADEON 9800 PRO
Video Memory=128
DirectX=DirectX 9.0b (4.09.00.0902)
OpenGL Version=1.4.4103 WinXP Release
OpenGL Vendor=ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL Renderer=RADEON 9800 Pro x86/SSE2
Driver: Omega 2.5.22

Even when I´m over 30 fps, frameskipping is not smooth. Reflections are kept in low, otherwise performance is awful.

I don´t know what more I can do... :(

Make sure you have downloaded the new drivers (http://www.ati.com)

Also, turn off any programs that you're not using while playing NBA Live. Virus Scanners tend to scan the system constantly and that can cause your game to run slow.

Yep, I´m using Omega 2.5.22, based on Catalyst 4.2 (latest version); I also close every program in my system tray before playing.

I don´t know what´s wrong with my PC, but I think I should get better framerates, despite of the CPU.
