I don't get steals or blocks on Pro

Thu Nov 07, 2024 1:05 pm

I do not get steals or blocks on Pro difficulty. Blocks were easier in older titles. Offense is easier with 50% FG, many threes...but with default settings, I cannot get any steals. I played two games with 12 minutes per quarter, had 5 steals and 1 one block in my first game and 0 steals, 0 blocks in my second game.

On-ball defense: I only get fouls
Off ball defense. Sometimes the CPU loses the ball, but a teammate recovers the ball so I don't get the steal

Blocks: The CPU choses ugly shots so I don't get the block...and he misses...

And like in every 2k title I don't know how to defend the CPU's cheese.

I play man on man, but when the ball handler runs past me, I am lost...he drives to the basket, I cannot react with other players in time and all my teammates do is STAND AROUND, doing nothing. Basically, it is the actively controlled player (me) against 5 CPU players. My players don't defend, don't guard well...

Often, the CPU point guard has the ball, another CPU player runs to the basket and received the ball...scores...it's like two human players actively controlling players...getting open...and I only have one player to control with my teammates watching and doing nothing. The CPU is way faster running and passing than I can manually switch players and defend.

How can you defend the CPU with default settings? Or how can you set the game that your teammates are actually useful?

5 games into the season, 4x12 minutes...12 steals and 4 blocks...haven't seen a single real block animation yet. Raising hands seems to work, but Towns only jumps and wraps his arms around the defender with the block button...and when I do nothing, the CPU also has him foul...he had 5 fouls caused by the CPU last game.

The Pro sliders are off on offense too...the CPU shoots a lot of threes, even when it could drive to the basket as everything is open.

You need to adjust the sliders to your preference. If you use a slider set from a YouTuber or from 2KShare, that set is perfect for that person. Everybody will not universally like that slider set. Download a set and experiment. Raise and lower whatever you need to have a good game whether you want realistic results or you just want to obliterate the competition. I like Popboy's slider set. I use most every setting he uses. I am on All Star setting. He has sliders for all difficulties. I do keep the min/max speeds to default and the game speed to 48 because his settings are too fast for me.

I set help defense coach slider to 25 to 10 to keep your AI teammates from doing dumb things. Teammates do get blocks. Since the NBA shoots a lot of threes in this era, the CPU will follow. You can adjust the sliders if you want less threes. It's your game. Play it like you want and adjust the sliders.

Popboy's set is on 2KShare. Search by content name on "popboy". He also has a google doc.

Use the right stick when playing defense off ball. It's a good way to bat down passes whether they are being thrown around the perimeter or in the paint. When going for steals on ball, try positioning your body more on the side of the ball handler (the side he is dribbling). This will often avoid the press steal to foul BS, and allow for some strips (even unnatural ones with your body) which can ignite fastbreaks. Also, when the CPU is driving to the hoop, use the right stick while shadowing him to the hoop, often times you can knock down the ball and recover it.

For blocks, the CPU, especially on pro and all-star is incredibly predictable on drives. If you over play the ball handler, they will dive to the rim, when they do, it will more often than not be a floater or a weak layup, this should allow you to get many blocks throughout a game. Make sure you are utilizing icon switching when necessary in order to switch to a big man (or in may cases, your smaller players can get them as well), that way you can cover the floater or layup.

This is coming from someone who has played many, many games on Pro, All-star, but more often than not, Superstar and HOF.
