How to defend and fix some issues?

Postby Leander on Fri May 17, 2024 8:05 am

Hi!

I have had the same problems in every NBA 2k game. I am a casual player, played a lot of Live back then, but I am not good at 2k.

1) Defense is difficult because the CPU is way faster. Is it impossible to control one player only? The PG of the other team brings the ball up court, I defend with my PG...everything is ok in the first quarter, but then the CPU always passes to some guy in my paint who has sneaked into it...but my CPU defenders are slow and dumb...they don't do anything.

The CPU team passes faster than I can react. With shoulder button -> pressing the button for the position I want to control. But I'd rather only control the on-ball defender...but my CPU defenders just stand around and do not close gaps or follow and box out the off-ball players of the opposing team. Happens in every 2k game.

Sometimes the opposing PG has the ball, I defend him, but he makes a quick pass to some guy standing under my basket all alone...and I did not even see him as he was off screen..and my CPU defenders do nothing against opposing players snearing around.

2) I play with default sliders, pro difficulty and real player FG%. I have trouble shooting above 45%...or even 40%.

Switching to Semi-pro does not help as the game is too easy then.

3) Is it possible to play without "be a coach" settings? I play with everything set to auto...and only call plays manually, but not all the time. Everything works for 1-2 quarters, but then the CPU plays quick and strong and I can only stop his runs by changing settings in "Be a coach" mode...but I don't want to...

Default sliders are the problem. You have to adjust then to your game, playing style and skill. There is no slider set perfect for everybody. Everybody plays different. Even your sliders will change as you improve. I use Popboy's sliders for the most part. I keep the game speed at default and keep the min/max user and cpu speeds at default. I adjust cpu/user shooting a little as needed. I play all-star then adjust. Some enjoy hall of fame but I never would. I print the slider set out and then write down any changes I make. Save the set and play a few games using the same team as opponents so one is not superior to the other. Then adjust as needed and save the set.

Popboy saves his set to Playstation but others have uploaded the sets so you can download them easily. Search the 2k cloud. Watch his videos for his explanations and reasoning.
