Corrupted Files

Something strange happened and someone please let me know if you've experienced something similar or know why it might've happened. I just bought 2k21 recently and after installing it and starting the game the downloading game updates was stuck at 0 %. Without that update I can't access the servers and many game modes don't work. I also can't even download the injury free roster or any shared rosters. After a few days of it being stuck at 0% I called 2k for help. They had me delete the SYNC.BIN which was supposed to work but didn't. They then had me uninstall/reinstall the game which was supposed to work but didn't. Since 2k21 didn't work I turned on 2k20 and suddenly the same thing happened except worse because everything I had created like shoes and players all corrupted and were gone and more importantly the retro mod rosters I downloaded from modders were corrupted and gone. Where the rosters were saved it says "No description found" and when I try to get online a message saying "Unable to synchronize your user profile information" shows up and I can't access the server. I next go to 2k19 and its suddenly having the same problem. So 2k19, 2k20, and 2k21 all have downloading game update stuck at 0 and for the 2k19 and 2k20 everything I had saved corrupted and disappeared, all within minutes of each other.

I had this happen on NBA 2K18...

After deleting the entire folder wh where the sync.bin is located, the game worked again and my saves were restored.

Two things

1. If you try this, make sure the backup the folder that houses the sync.bin

2. This may not work, just figured I'd help troubleshoot.

Verifying game cache through Steam is another option, but that didnt work for me on 2K18.

In your case did you experience just the downloading game updates stuck at 0%, the loss or at least temporary loss of saved rosters/shoes/mods/created players etc through corruption, or both?

I was stuck at 0%... the game wouldn't update. I let it sit for a few hours while I ran errands, came back and it was still stuck at 0%.

As far as saves, once I got in my saves were corrupted, but I had an old sync.bin on my other computer that worked as far as restoring the rosters.

The whole thing makes no sense to me.

For the path to the SYNC.BIN its \userdata\441757509\*a number*\local. That path part that says *a number* is a number like 841370 for example that identifies which 2k title from recent years that it is. Just to be sure when you say you deleted the folder that houses the sync.bin are you talking about deleting *a number* that has the local, remote, and remotecache folders inside? I'm going to pm you because I can't upload photos on this reply and photos will help you understand what I'm saying in case you don't.

I'm saying delete the folder that holds the sync.bin, whatever folder that is (I think it's either local or remote)

But make sure to backup the folder before deleting.
