Finally someone who observed it and is mentioning it. Can't believe everyone is only complaining bout the new shot meter in that first Dame step back gameplay clip and (as ugly as it is) not how his release looks ridiculously high and nothing like his real life shot. According to the trailer, among all other non-changed stuff in this game, the shooting, dribbling and Signature Styles in general, which have always been my main praise for 2K for the long term, 2K20 claimed the No.1 spot for making animations so much worse than before and 2K21 current gen is continuing that exact path.
I have been playing and editing players jumpshots, dribblings n signature styles on EVERY 2K since 2K9 on PC, and on every single 2K my goal was just to create an own roster with edited players animations as realistic as they can be, (especially jumpers) dependend on the existing animations that r given in the game. U wouldn't believe me how many days of editing players and their animations I spent on every single 2K. I swear to u I'm not lying saying that I know every j/base/release animation from every single 2K since 2K9 and that's why know exactly when 2K changed, cut out or even swapped previous really good signature animations to random ones they have in their collection, calling it then a new signature which looks completely unrealistic though (one of the recent ones is Melo for ex with 2K19 and 20). Disgusting how his shot looks now compared to earlier 2Ks when everyone's reminded rn by him ballin with dame and the blazers fighting for a playoff spot and how his shooting form for a fact is one of the most beautiful the NBA has ever seen.
Thats a whole decade back and some Js from these older 2Ks look still more realistic than 2K20/21 because not only 2K didn't give us so few of the improvements we've been asking for all those years, nah they even made the newer games worse than before. As much joy I had with our current gen 2Ks, as much anger has built up over time, if not more. 2K always haven't had many Jumpers with a low release point in general but at least a few and now it's not only that 2K cut out most of these /their best bases n releases to edit and create realistic jumpshots, NO most of the fucking NEW added Signature Jumper from the recent years look so unrealistic, exactly the opposite as it used to be back in the days. In 2K20 they really put the cherry on the cake by switching like TRIIIAD mentioned above the releases and the follow through in general to MUCH HIGHER! than it used to be in 2K19< which looks just fuckin off and completely kills the realism of Js from so many NBA players, like for ex Dame, Steph, Trae young, Harden, etc.etc...
This years Cover Athlet Dame's J n release is best example (, watch this vid if ur not familiar with his J in real life:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vxae3WvYJXk) and then watch the opening of the trailer again where he shoots his signature step back and realize how fuckin bad and unrealistic it looks, that's just a joke knowing it's their COVER ATHLETE, whose rls they just changed last year with 2K20 but is just looks fucking disgustin.
His shot and release looks higher than Kevin Garnetts and due to the animations existing in the game only to a certain amount fixable with a lot of tweaking.
This game could look SO MUCH MORE realistic if they just brought back older signatures they previously cut out or actually added GOOD and REALISTIC ones like they used to back in the days and not only add like 10 new, cut out 5 and add almost the same lower base 5 like times which is how it was kinda like for the past years.
To be honest, this + while doing dribbling moves the ball is constantly going THROUGH the players legs, feet and knees (slow the trailer to 0.25x and watch the very first dribble Dame takes and how it still goes through his leg for ex) which wasn't like this in 2K19< and makes the dribbling look SO MUCH worse, the general "delayed" feeling of movement in 2K20 made me deinstall it after a few month after realizing that they will not fix or tweak any of this with further patches.
The first 2K I bought and ever then deinstalled. And not regretting it. This delayed feeling I'm talking about, I still remember starting 2K20 for first time and immediatley thinking it feels so slow and delayed to how 2K19 felt, thought it was some (graphics) settings option but that's just how the game is, sadly.
Start any other 2K from our Current gen and u directly realize that it feels so much more responsive. Nothing u can change bout that in 2K20. Worst feeling and first impression of any 2K I played and I would be SO SURPRISED if 2K21 will be any different after watching this trailer. Sadly these gameplay "things" can not be tweaked, changed or fixed by our amazing modders in the community
I'm 99% sure 2K21 will be the first 2K I'm not buying and, praying some cloud gaming services like stadia etc will get the next gen version in their collection soon to achieve max possible NBA realism on the PC, seems to be last option for us PC players I guess. (Or keep hoping EA Sports transforms to old glory form and gives us PC players NBA Live 21 as well. Oh wait, for a sec I forgot there willl be no Live 21 releasing... )
