Face_color editing

Sun May 10, 2020 5:10 pm

Hello guys,

So I try to edit the face_color.dds file so I can create some rookie versions of players but I have some kind of issue now

You can see in the screenshot.

Capture d’écran 2020-05-10 à 09.03.06.png

The player is Kyrie. What I did for a rookie version is removing his hair and beard. It worked. After that I started to edit the face color dds file because he still had a little beard texture. I just filled the transparent beard surface with skin color and here is the result : black head...

Does someone knows what I did wrong ?

Most likely it was just saved incorrectly when exporting. I use GIMP to edit face textures and have to export as a .dds file with the compression set to BC3/DXT5. Click generate mipmaps afterwards and you should be good to export.

If that's not the issue, then make sure the name of the color file you just edited matches the name in the color texture file. You can open the color texture file in Notepad or Notepad+ to make sure they both match.

Hey Kidhybrid,

Thank you for the help but in Gimp I can't find where the exportation options are... I checked if the names match and it's ok on this side. I use the last version of Gimp 2.

Ok so here is my better result for a rookie Kyrie.

Obviously I am not using the good method

Searching something to erase the beard and just let a little mustache...

What did you mean by removing the hair/beard and it working? I tried removing the hair/beard files for Anthony Davis, and it doesn’t change for some reason. If you’re up to do it for players like AD eventually, I’d appreciate. Making All-Time College Rosters for personal use... maybe public if I get permission from the publisher of the base mod.

I mean going in apperance.dat with notepad ++ and turn has_facialhair and has_hair to "false". Here is my result with AD :

As you can see, I had to edit the face_color with photoshop so he have no facial hair at all. Without editing face color, he had some kind of beard texture left under his 3d beard.

Don't know if it's more clear now sorry..

Plus, I know that rookie AD was skinner but I don't know how to edit body model and I can't use blender. Plus again, sometimes some players needs head shape editing I know that too but this is the same problem as body model for me..

It's my better result tho.

That’s looks pretty good. I think just copy the appearance file from another AD cyberface would be a quick change to the body type. Thanks for the clarification, I’ll try that later.

Okay I tried exactly that, using note pad ++... made both false, didn’t change anything. Deleted all of the hair and beard files in PNG, had white mesh of the 3D model of hair/beard. Tried deleting every part that related to hair. Nothing worked unfortunately. Always had the 3D mold of hair/beard one way or another.

Edit: I figured it out. Had to remove all of the coding in the appearance file that had to do with his hair or facial hair.

Yes sometimes if the notepad++ thing don"t work properly, I just remove sne files in hair.iff and hair_tangentspace.iff

I'm not sure your idea work for body type but i'll give it a try.

It works, but I'd replace the appearanceinfo.rdat from a cyberface's body model you'd like to use, then edit it to match skin color/remove facial hair.

Also, did your game ever crash when you replaced the face_color dds? If it did, what was your fix?

Found out the problem! Didn't generate mipmaps while exporting

You're right it worked but I have a problem especially with AD. Look at his arms. Do you know where the issue is ?

Yeah, players that wear compression shirts definitely don’t translate as well when you give them another body model. Since you’re mixing a certain cyberface with another appearance, accessories such as compression shirts, elbow pads, and etc. will cause a bit of clipping.

I’d try to adjust the values in the appearance.rdat, in your case, maybe decrease the size of anything involving the lower neck/upper chest, and biceps to fit the compression shirt.

Another option is going into blender, I can’t remember what file you’d use, but there’s a lot videos out there on it, especially from Tgsogood.
